Rufus Sewell is set as the male lead in ABC’s Richard LaGravenese drama pilot. In the vein of Dangerous Liaisons, the untitled project is set in New York and revolves around the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites — Philip Fitzgerald Julien (Sewell) and Margot Worth Cole — who play out their obsessive attraction and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others. UK-born Sewell, repped by WME, previously headlined CBS’ drama series Eleventh Hour and recently co-starred in HBO’s Paradise’s End. Taylor Hackford to Direct ABC's Richard LaGravenese Pilot (Exclusive) ABC Orders Dramas From Tom Donaghy, Chris Keyser, Richard LaGravanese, Stephanie Savage HBO's 'Parade's End' Miniseries Teaser: Love and Loss During World War I (Video) Parade's End's and Pillars of the Earth's Rufus Sewell will star in the untitled drama from the scribe behind Beautiful Creatures, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Set in New York City, the drama revolves around the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites who play out their obsessive attraction to and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others. Sewell will play Philip Fitzgerald Julien, an imposing, confident and smart bisexual man who is a master manipulator and adept at seduction and deceit. His cynical world view creates a reality for him that protects a heart that loved once too strongly and refuses to be hurt again. He finds art in destroying and unmasking the lies behind society's elite and powerful with his skills of deceit and sexual expertise. He agrees to assist his ex-lover Margot -- his only equal and the one who broke his heart -- in her campaign to annihilate her rich pig of an ex-husband, Anderson Cole. Philip plans to seduce the virginal, naive Cecelia Karelle -- an ingenue who is Anderson's current fiancee, but who is certain to topple happily into Philip's experienced (though memorably cold-blooded) arms. The English actor's TV credits include Parade's End, Restless, BBC's Zen and Eleventh Hour; on the feature side, he's had roles in A Knight's Tale, The Illusionist and Tristan and Isolde. He's repped by WME, Julian Belfrage Associates and Parseghian Planco. LaGravenese will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios pilot alongside Erwin Stoff, Ilene Staple and Wren Arthur. (Oh, one of the moderators, come quickly and melt the two threads into one! Let's celebrate in one big crowd.) Dangerous Liaisons!!! I loved the movie so much (the Glenn Close - John Malkovich movie), it made me read the book and that book became one of my most loved books!! And now Rufus plays the lead role -  this is the news of the century! The scriptwriter has made things like "The Bridges of Madison County" and "P.S. I Love You", so oh oh oh, the script is bound to be good! Valmont is such a fantastic character, this Philip, played by Rufus, must be FANTASTIC! <fangirlish scream> A role when Rufus can act from the sweetest to the coldest!!! <fangirlish scream> The plot in the articles doesn't have the Madame de Tourvel story line, but it cannot be left out, this drama has to be stuffed with love! (True love, feigned love, quick love, out-of-boredom love, jealous love, all-words-the-dictionary-knows sort of love. ) And now let's dance!  |
