Thanks everyone for this juicy news. I hope the script is well written so Rufus gets a chance to show what he's made of - sounds like a brilliant, complex role.

Oh dear : talkbacker.com/tv/tv-news/katie-holmes-joins-rufus-sewell-dangerous-liasons-show/id=27729Holmes will play Ann, a woman of education and breeding, who has never used those advantages for power over others. She’s smart, stylish and genuinely down to earth (basically the Michelle Pfeiffer role). Ann runs a philanthropic foundation with her husband. When Philip (Rufus Sewell) and Margot (still uncast) make a bet and destroy Ann’s perfect marriage, Ann learns to play the game and becomes the ultimate match for Philip. I hope the script is well written so Rufus gets a chance to show what he's made of Yeah, we all know exactly what you're thinking about, Lassie: so looking forward to seeing Roof's thighs/muscles

"Ann (Holmes) learns to play the game and becomes the ultimate match for Philip" I just had to borrow your wonderful smiley, Laila, to express my feelings towards KH. (and two of the new ones I just discovered!)

Hmmm. She wouldn't have been my first choice, but maybe she'll outdo herself

yeah. holmes curbed my enthusiasm right there. and to be frank, sorry to be such a grinch, but once the initial glee has passed, i grind my teeth a bit. the guy played shakespeare and stoppard, yet all they give him is a night time soap? grrrr. of course he will be fabulous, he could play this character with his eyes closed (wish he wont, though, would be too bad!!!) and i dont care much about "sexual thrillers" , but if anyone can make such a concept gullible, it's our man. i dont care for katie holmes much, and her star may have paled a bit since she blessedly shunned mr. cruise, but she is still hollywood movie material, so her joininng this cast is a bit of hope for this grinch, so are all the great names cited above.when we learn the name of the female lead, we wight knowbetter where this is going for real. i mean, annette benning -type? yeah!!!! generic hollywood blondie-pffft. and 'revenge'may be my guilty pleasure', but i would hate to see my favorite actor having to spit such stupid dialogues. i still remember the pain i felt when he had to say 'pheromones,' in this awful, awful 11thhour episode. i could feel his embarrassment. he is way too clever not to hurt at these things. but dont let me rain on the parade. i just broke a led candle i loved, so this just might be my bad mood

Certainly not a KH fan. She is known/popular(for whatever reason), so maybe this wont be so bad. I am hopeful and excited anyway. Some times in this Country especially, popularity trumps acting ability. Sad but true.
Rufus usually has his reasons for accepting a part. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Will watch it only for him. Have done that before as I have not loved everything he has been in...only his performance.
Cheer up Tipou....lol.

i know, i know! i will get the glue, repair the candle, and i will feel better in no time. of course i will watch the show too, wouldnt miss my rufus for anything, not even katie holmes. i can survive yet another soap, and the guy has to pay the rent like the rest of us, i will be rooting for him, thats for sure! some days, i just have to be the grinch. dont mind me

We have missed you around here! Your points are valid. I just hope its good. The hot trend seems to be the Revenge/Scandal type "soap". Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised and this will be a good guilty pleasure for us all.
Hope the repair job goes well!

A bit more on the Katie Holmes character: The series will be set in modern-day New York City. It will feature Katie Holmes as Ann, a woman of education and breeding, who has never used those advantages for power over others. She also runs a philanthropic foundation with her husband Phillip, who will be played by Rufus Sewell.
Phillip and Margot, who has not been cast yet, make a bet that will destroy his seemingly happy marriage to Ann, and soon Ann will learn to play the game, and be a competitive match for Phillip. www.webpronews.com/katie-holmes-returns-to-tv-with-abc-pilot-2014-03The Futon Critic page (see link on my last post) gives her character's surname as Walker, so it seems unlikely that she's Rufus's wife in this. Wonder if they're right about it being modern-day?

Thanks for the extra info GE2. The Futon Critic page is a great find. One to keep an eye on.
If Philip does turn out to be co-running philanthropic foundation, he's certainly a complex character. I love that they snapped Rufus up first before finalising the other parts.
