My guilty pleasures I forgot to mention are cheesy Lifetime movies on the weekend. Hubby calls them "kill the men movies". I did tell him the men are often the victims.

kill the men movies!!!!! ROTFL!! that reminds me of another trend here in quebec, in commercials, often when commercials feature acouple, the man is shown to be silly if not straight stupid, while the woman despises him while fixing everything. i know its supposed to be funny, but frankly its getting old. it probably means that they are targeting women, and so they believe that women are both mean AND gullible.

So good to have you back, tip! I've been missing you!
Of the series you mention, I have only seen the first couple of episodes of "House of Cards" but couldn't quite get into it, although I agree Kevin Spacey was fabulous as harmless-looking schemer Underwood. Maybe I'll give it another try some day.
Breaking Bad has been quite a hit in Germany, but I never saw any of it.
Commercials aren't much better over here. I totally agree that the "stupid man vs. clever woman" thing is really getting terribly boring.

THANK YOU kissmekate! how nice of you to say that. i was like you, i really had to give a second look at house of cards. it was worth it. oh so you have the "stupid man vs. clever woman" thing going on in commercials over there too? i guess publicity people are insulting intelligences the world over !!!

I'm not being nice, just telling the truth! I guess House of Cards might work better if you watch the original version. It was on German TV briefly, but very late on Sunday evenings, so it didn't become a big success AFAIK. For every clever, witty ad, there are at least ten abominably bad ones Speaking of series, I'm waiting for the next season of "Homeland" to hit German screens. I've been a Damian Lewis fan since I discovered "Band of Brothers" and really loved this one, quite different from what we usually get.

I started to watch The Bridge but didn't stick with it. It was good so I am not sure why I stopped. Anyone watch any reality TV. I don't.

I don't. i like "so you think you can dance" , they call it reality although i cant see why. otherwise, i watch tv to get entertained, not to watch people whose lives are even more boring than mine. i would rather watch a good documentary.

Kygal asked Anyone watch any reality TV. I don't. Tip answered i watch tv to get entertained, not to watch people whose lives are even more boring than mine. i would rather watch a good documentary. This is my problem with so-called reality TV in a nutshell. That and the fact most of this stuff is, in reality, if not actually scripted, is heavily influenced by the directors/producers who "suggest" behavior to the participants.

I agree. I don't watch reality TV eighter but a lot of my friends do. Don't like to glorify bad behavior. I guess if Rufus play a part that glorifies bad behavior, I am ok with that..lol. My friends hubby and son were on amazing race several years ago. Said it was interesting to be involved.
Hope you had fun with your GOT binge Rumantic. I cant seem to bring myself to watch this but know people love it. This comes from the only one in the world who doesn't watch DA.

We got through all but the last disc, which we will watch today. I watch it because I read and loved the books...if I hadn't, I probably wouldn't be watching it either, although I do think it is good and they have done a nice job of adapting the books so far.

damian lewis was so good in it too, wasnt he? that bit in the panick room with the vp... ohmygod i get goosebumps just thinking about it. what a story !!! Incredibly good! The scene you mention was surely one of the best. This series is truly something else. Both Danes and Lewis succeeded exceedingly well in making their characters real people with complicated personalities. I really loved that the makers steered clear of the usual good-vs-bad scheme. You never quite knew who was on whose side, which accounted for a lot of the suspense and enjoyment of the series. I threw a major tantrum when I realized the third season had started on German TV without me noticing You should think they'd have a good ad campaign, as they do for GOT - but nothing at all. GRRRRRRRR!!!! I love GOT, too. I think they achieved a good mix of fantasy and pseudo-historical elements, and I like most of the cast (Michael McElhatton aka Chief Hueber appearing in another not-too-likeable role made me laugh, though ). And even if you haven't read the books, it is not too hard to follow the complicated story. My only gripe is the sex scenes, some of them were not in the books and seem to have been added to spice things up a bit (as if that were necessary with such a good twisty plot).
