Thanks for the extra pics, Adina - yes, that is the bed at the start.
Did they change the start because of the spoiler complaints? "But placing the memorial plaques of Postman’s Park - where several encounters take place - along the back wall is a bold decision, essentially mounting a spoiler in full view... Then again, Marber often gives the audience more knowledge about the characters than they have about each other, so perhaps it simply serves as a constant gloomy reminder that deception can be there from the very start of a relationship." (Independent) No, I think they changed the start because it didn't really flow - on the first preview, the actors came on set, sat at the back for a few moments, and then moved to the bed and began moving the set and props around. It seemed a bit pointless and disjointed to me. The set was virtually in darkness so the plaques couldn't be seen then.
Until you know the significance of the memorial plaques, you really don't notice or pay much attention to them - they're just the backdrop to the set. In any event, because of the lighting, they're really not all that obvious for much of the time - especially when attention is directed elsewhere..... (I do agree about the "...perhaps it simply serves as a constant gloomy reminder that deception can be there from the very start of a relationship" comment)
Thanks for the news about Clive Owen to Broadway with OT, Nell. All I can say is wrong choice! Still, it would have been worse if Lia and Kristin were doing it, too.

There was one of these for Old Times too chicanepictures.com/2015/03/03/closer/I'm copying the text - if only for the typo. Wishful thinking ?! Closer – Patrick Marber’s study about the brutality of modern relationships, gets its first major revival at London’s Donmar Warehouse and has already sold out.
When it premiered at the National Theatre in London in 1997 and the Music Box Theatre on Broadway in 1999, Closer won Olivier, Evening Standard and New York Drama Critics Circle Awards and was nominated for a Tony for Best Play.
Directed by David Leveaux, it stars Rufus Sewell, Nancy Carroll, Oliver Chris and Rachel Redford as the quartet caught up in “an agonised sexual and emotional square dance,” according to The Telegraph.
The Donmar website sums the play as: “Dan rescues Alice. Anna photographs Dan. Larry meets Anna online. Alice rescues Larry. This is London at the end of the twentieth century, where lives collide and fates change in an instant.”
According to the Evening Standard, Marber writes perceptively about our obsession with appearances, the perils of honesty and the damage we can do to others in the name of love. Holly Williams in the Independent summarises it as “hook ups, F*** ups and break ups”.
The cast all signed my sketch after Saturday’s matinée, Closer runs until 24 April 2015

No chance of it lasting to 24 April, sadly - see the comment from Rufus in an article I posted in one of the other Closer threads earlier.
Thanks for posting the pic, Nell.

I agree Rachel! NOT FAIR! Not sure I would consider that an Oscar nominated performance. But to be fair, I haven't seen the movie in a while. I agree with you Rachel and Kygal, I would not consider this an Oscar nominated performance. It is a while since I saw it too; I didn't even remember Clive Owen being in it. What I did remember was a wimpy pouty performance from Jude law.

I understand why you turned the spoiler word into red, but it is so good to read any sort of details. Please, theatre-goers, discuss the play and Rufus's performance into bits to entertain feed us curious non-goers. A bonus at the end was to discover that in the next few days there will be a "making of" feature online, showing us the process of putting the play together, with rehearsal pics, so look out for that! It has arrived! And it's fantastic!!! link Click on the picture of Closer and you'll get a 40 pages long treat. ‘I think a strong part of Larry’s identity is that he doesn’t come from a background that doctors usually come from. He’s aware of his identity. He’s proud. But it comes with a certain complexity.’ - Rufus SewellThere is a new rehearsal pic to love on page 11. And there is a Larry-bearing-a-gift photo on page 15 , but don't rush there, read every line, because the entire thingy is interesting... "After much discussion it was decided that until the scene could be fully technically realised, Rufus and Oliver would mark through the scene vocalising as they were typing, to get a feel for their characters intentions and reactions. Needless to say, with the nature of the chatroom, it was an afternoon filled with hilarity!"...very interesting... [Marber] "So I thought: can you do this? Can you write a play that has the exciting bits without the boring bits?" ...and funny. ENJOY! (Ah, the tragedy when Rufus's shoes don't have the right nuance. Hah! "Rufus Sewell: The wrong feather boa... Nancy Carrol: That is a nightmare.") Yes, enjoy, it is really good stuff.

What a wonderful find, adina! Thanks! I haven't had the time to read it all bit by bit, but I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures. Page 15!! Larry doesn't need to come bearing gifts. Looking like that, he IS the gift!

Finally, here it is! Thanks for posting the link, Adina! It´s a great read with a lot of informations about the performance and the actors. The pictures are stunning! (yay... 11 + 15 ) I like the rehearsal diary and the interviews . The way from script to character... it seems Rufus wanted to get a biker jacket? It´s very interesting to read, how a play like this comes to be.

Ah, thanks for finding the link, Adina! Nice to have a couple more pics for our collection! (The writer of the guide, Ben Woolf, was the guy running the workshop on Saturday - very nice man, and very encouraging).
