From the entry for Orleans Park School:
Added by Mary Williams on 22/12/2002 16:08 year: 1984 Rufus Sewell
I remember we both won an award for sports or something and had a group photo taken. He was fat, unattractive with peroxide blonde hair ( with roots naturally!) and a bad attitude. WHAT A CHANGE!
I'd like to meet Mary Williams. In fact, I'd put money on her being fat, unattractive........saucer of milk, anyone?

This isn't aimed at you ruthy but at Mary Williams whomever she may be. I don't understand why people do this. If they were a beautiful adolescent good for them. There are very few of those. If they weren't, why attack someone else who had an ugly duck phase? If it's attention seeking why not say something nice? Otherwise it's just plain mean-spirited and small--at least to me. I just don't get it...

I think you misjudge Mary Williams - the net result of that post was that she appreciates who he is now and what she said pretty much mirrored Roof's own remininscences of his adolescence.

Let's not take this too seriously, guys. This is what 'Friends' Reunited is all about. Vitriol and childish recollections. That's why I avoid it like the plague personally. Just thought it would be interesting to see what Rufus' peers thought of him (like we care really). Here's another, more affectionate reminiscence:
Added by Terry Leake on 10/09/2003 14:18 year: 1980 Rufus Sewell
I remember going to London with Rufus to try and see the studio his dad used to work at (I think Rufus said his dad did some of the artwork in the Beatles film "Yellow Submarine"). We didnt get to the studio, but had a great time wandering around the West End.
Scary to think though, two 10 year olds wandering around London on there own.
Also remember going out with him to Twickenham and Richmond on a shoplifting spree when we about 11. We were masters of crime. Thankfully we grew out of that nasty habit very quickly.
We also used to pertend to have a fight in the street to see what would happen. We decided to stop doing that after a man had Rufus up against a garage door when he thought he was kicking the hell out of me. Very stupid, but great fun at the time.
Ruth: I can identify with this. My pal and I (another Rufus maniac), used to take it in turns pretending to be blind with the other leading them, just for reaction. Sickos really, but it was funny at the time.
There's another entry from a girl named Shirley Hewett on FR but that's rather unkind so I won't be posting it. It's out there if anyone wants to find it themselves.

And another nice one here:
Added by Rebecca Lack on 23/03/2002 23:24 year: 1984 Rufus Sewell
I still have a book of his cartoons that he drew for me.I love to see him and am glad he did so well.He use to take us to the pub on Richmond Green,he was the only one who could get served,in his long black coat.He never sat down, always had one leg on a chair and lent on it with his elbow. We all use to watch him in awe!I was very embarrassed to watch him strip in one of his films the other night!!!!I told my husband & my children, 'I went to school with him .But I must say he's looking good.
Ruth: Scary thing is, I know that pub well and would have been hanging round there about this time. Can't say I remember him though......

No, I don't think I do misjudge her. I think her aim was to say something hateful and take someone down a peg for some reason that isn't readily apparent. But that is her issue which was my point, actually. Not the entire world's issue. At any rate, I'm with ruthy on this one. It's not particularly important but it is eternal on the internet. thanks for posting them ruthy...

Friends Reunited is a board where people register their presence at a particular school and hope that some of their school mates contact them. You have to pay to be a member. People put up their memories of their teachers, the school, other irrelevant information including famous pupils. They report having a great deal of success in getting school friends back in touch with each other!

And yet another (do tell me if this is getting a tad wearisome, folks):
Added by Terry Leake on 10/09/2003 13:58 Caretaker
I remember at the end of term there was me, Rufus Sewell, Paul Heath and I think Simon Dennison playing in the playground after everybody had gone home. The caretaker came running out, grabbed a big stick from a bin near the door and started waving it at us telling us to go home.
After he went in, we grabbed the stick and carried on playing. He came running out again a few minutes later and went for the stick that wasnt there. When he turned around, we waved the stick at him and shouted "Go home".
And then ran....

These are wonderful little gems Ruthy. Thank you so much for bringin them to the board. These perceptions & memories give us a little glimpse into Roof's past. Looks like he has left a lot of droolers in his wake!
