Ok, lately, with the threads of recasting films or what we'd like to see Rufus do..........I've been thinking of stories/movies/types of things that I'd love to see Rufus do just because I CANNOT picture him doing them! I'm not saying Rufus CAN'T do any of this stuff........just that I can't see it! The ones that have come to mind are: *A real western, on the order of "Lonesome Dove" or "Legends of the Fall" or "Dances With Wolves" Just can't see Ruf as a cowboy!
*A spy pic, like the Bourne Identity or Mission Impossible (and I HATE Tom Cruise, so Ruf would have to be better than him!)
*A musical, on the order of "Grease".........that just makes me laugh!
*A goofy comedy, such as "Young Frankenstein" or "The Jerk" or even "Holy Grail". I mean he does comedy so well........but I can't picture him in a silly, goofy comedy. Taming was clever and smart.
*A big-time Sci-Fi such as Star Wars or Star Trek or The Matrix or Aliens........I know he did Dark City, but I mean even more sci-fi than that.
What are roles that you just can't see Rufus doing? Again, we're not saying he CAN'T........just that we can't see it!

I cannot see Rufus as "the dad" in one of those comedies with kids. I cannot see Rufus as the patriarch in one of those films that revolves around generations of a family. I cannot see Rufus as The Phantom of the Opera. I cannot see Rufus in one of those sword and sandal pics where he has to run around with no clothes chopping at things with a sword. I cannot see Rufus as a Gladiator. I cannot see Rufus as a pirate, but then I can't see Johnny Depp as one either... I cannot see Rufus as a foppish French aristocrat trying to take over the world with soap...(oops) okay maybe I can. I cannot see Rufus enough.

I would love to see Ruf as a parent........one, because I can't picture it either, and two, because he IS a dad and I would love to see him bring that part of him to the story! In fact, you mention the patriarch.........but I can't see Ruf in ANY kind of family dynamic. I mean yes, he's done Cold Comfort and he was in a family........but he was the off-beat son. I'd love to see him in a really serious tight-knit family story. Can any of us really see Rufus enough??? LOL Michelle

I cannot see Roof in an American sitcom. *shudders* Hmmmm.......as an American, I might just take that personally!!! Actually, you are right.......with few exceptions, our sitcoms suck! I think he would have been great in a show like "Arrested Development", I found that to be a very cleverly-written, well-acted piece of comedy. That's why FOX had it and not the other three networks.......they don't do clever! Michelle

I'd love to see him in a really serious tight-knit family story. Yes, that would be interesting! How soon we all forget. He was a particularly loving and gentle parent in CII. It was a wonderful dimension to the character how much his children meant to him. I should have been more articulate. What I had in mind were those films they do around the holidays where there are parents in a wacky comedy or something like the Godfather or A River Runs Through it. Wasn't that the one with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins? He is a parent to Tristan in T+I and he is viturally a parent to the kids in Extreme Ops. He's done "parent" quite a lot, actually.

The ones that have come to mind are: *A real western, on the order of "Lonesome Dove" have you ever seen the television version with Eric McCormack? I think Rufus would make a partcularly appealing Clay Mosby.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking of when I said that, Maxx!!!!! I have both seasons of LD: The Series and I think EM did the most amazing job playing Mosby, it's my favorite thing he's ever done in fact. I can totally see Rufus in that role! How fun would that be???
Great minds think alike! Michelle

Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins did "Legends of the Fall" Brad did "A River Runs Through It" with Tom Skerritt as his dad. It's actually those kinds of movies that I was talking about.......Godfather type or River Runs Through It type of family patriarch. I can't see Ruf doing those, so that why I want to see him do one. He has played a parent more than I remembered.......just not in a way that I want to see him. In CII, while the children showed another side of him.......it was still very much a side story, not the main focus and with T&I.....it had more to do with his love not being returned by Isolde than it had to do with his relationship with Tristan. I guess I didn't see the Ex Ops as being a parent, so that one doesn't hit it for me. I would just like to see the main story with him as a father........maybe a widower with small children that doesn't know what he's doing! Or the father with children who's mom is a drug addict and can't take care of them (on the order of "When a Man Loves a Woman"). That is what I would like to see him do...........because I just can't picture it at all. Great discussion! Michelle

I'd HATE to see Rufus as a quizmaster on a game show, but I'd LOVE to see him as a panellist on something like "QI" (a sometimes intellectual, sometimes completely off-the-wall, rather esoteric panel game, chaired by Stephen Fry) or "Never Mind the Buzzc*cks", a rather rude, crude pop-quiz-type show, also often completely mad. He'd have a ball on either (as long as Mr Fry could resist those potent pheromones, of course )

There are many "different" rolls I'd enjoy seeing him tackle, as long as they're challenging. Some of the ones you've all suggested sound interesting. I personally enjoy quirky characters.
My nightmare roll for him is almost too horrible to contemplate, an American type Soap Opera. Ugg!
What I'd really like to be privy to is a list of parts or even just character types that he'd most like to be offered.

lmao Oh see what happens when I try to contribute a comment of serious nature? I just read that I used the word "rolls" twice. Now all I can imagine is Ruf sitting at a table before a giant platter of rolls & pastries which he will shortly "tackle" lol

Geez and I was thinking roll as in roll in the hay! Any roll is good in my book!

I cannot see Rufus in one of those sword and sandal pics where he has to run around with no clothes chopping at things with a sword. I cannot see Rufus as a Gladiator. But he did play Agamemnon in Helen of Troy... pretty much exactly that. Except no fighting naked, just bathing. *points to icon* Um. I think he can do pretty much anything! And now that you mention it, musical cowboy Rufus would be lovely! (Oklahoma, anyone? ) A bad script is worse than any sort of strange character role, I think. (okay, maybe Oklahome would be a stretch... even if Hugh Jackman has done it...)
