I've interpreted this to be facetious. I still can't imagine how anyone could confuse these two actors. To reiterate, I see no possible comparison in talent or appearance.

Have I misunderstood? Could this have been intended to be taken seriously? Either way it is funny. Thanks for the link.

I had not seen Gladiator in a long time, and I just assumed it was Ruf in Gladiator, and that his name was Joaquin. I don't know how it happened, but once I saw Ruf in Illusionist I began to suspect my mistake.

Did I mention I have a terrible memory for actors? I can name all the main characters in favorite movies, but usually could not say who played them if my life depended on it. It's always been more able the story for me, then behind the scenes.

I thought the exact same thing last year too, Foebea, so it's not only you. The dark curly mop of hair, the deep-set eyes, good looking and playing a bad guy?

Plus there's an airline pilot somewhere or other that asked Ruf for his autograph because his son loved him in Gladiator!

I'm sure there are many other people that have confused the two but won't admit it. Welcome to the board.

Okay, that's pretty funny. I still don't think they look ANYTHING alike, but its funny.

Although I don't think they look alike...I do think the comparison to Joaquin makes a little more sense than the comparisons he gets with Jude Law - that I just don't get AT ALL. (I swear, the people who post on IMDB are bonkers! One person even compared Rufus to Cate Blanchett - wtf?)

At LEAST Joaquin has somewhat similar hair, eyebrows, and pretty eyes -- so maybe if I squint, I can kind of understand why some folks might mistake them. Especially if they weren't super-familiar with Rufus.

They are both my favourite actors, but I don't think that strictly physically there is not much resemblance, other than that, that they are "dark".

Could it be that it si more a habitus thing - the reason I like Joaquin and Rufus is that they are such emotional, intense and intellectual actors. Perhaps that intesity and that delicate instinctiveness is something that give's it's characteristics to their being?

Or then it is a Scorpio thing. I think Joaquin haas his birthday on 28.10.
