We've had a thread about Rufus' favorite things so I thought I'd start one about OUR favorite things about Rufus in his roles.
I like the way he scratches his ear when he's speaking about something he's fond of.
I like the way his hair annoys him when it's long.
I like the way you can sometimes see the little boy he was when he gets angry.

I love the nervous that sometimes slips out uncontrollably. I like the fact that he actively seeks 'ugly' and interesting roles rather than lazily capitalising on his looks. I love his self-effacing humour, his sometimes sideways look at life and his wisdom, especially when talking about the vacuousness of the business he's in.

I like his self-deprecating humur about his appearance. Most men are very fully of themselves when they are as attractive as he is (and even ones that DON'T look like him can be full of themselves - think enormous men in Speedos) I like his lazy eye, and his infectious laugh. Most of all, I like that he pursues the work and not the fame, and is so very kind to his adoring fans.................

I don't know him very well but he seems to be an honest and true man... and FUNNY as well, I like that so much.
Besides I'm fond of his piercing glance whether lazy and soft or hard and painful.
I fully love his eyes expressing himself so well.

My favorite thing about Rufus? That he's one of those good actors that you can always count on to be good, even in a bad project. He definitely falls under my "I'd pay to watch him/her read the phonebook" actor category.

He definitely falls under my "I'd pay to watch him/her read the phonebook" actor category. well I was going for goofy personal peccadilloes that seem to sneak into his roles but I like that about him too. and truthfully, he's interesting enough when he's performing that I'd pay to watch him sit in a chair for an hour just to see what he'd do. I'd love to see him in one of those roles where he doesn't talk through the entire film. It's difficult for me to imagine, but I'd love to see it.

I too like his & his staccato laugh. I like the way he fidgets constantly during most interviews, and that he tends to scratch unconsciously. He gestures with his hands during conversations, and I've always liked that a great deal. I like that left alone, he can't be bothered to brush his hair for photo shoots. His eyes are beautiful, and I'm so glad he hasn't changed a thing. That he has such an affable personality and treats his fans so well. I like that he knows where he wants to go in his career and that he's been willing to take the more difficult route getting there. Sorry, most of these things apply to real life.

I love the way his head so softly tilts to the side when he is offended/insulted and his eyes so immediately register the hurt so that it is impossible to believe that he is acting and not really experiencing the feeling.
I love the way his eyes search his partner to seek some silent message.
I love the way he expresses such raw emotion with his eyes.
I love his wispy, unkempt hair.
I love most of all that he is a real person and is available to laugh with, take a picture and considerate to understand the "our side" of the fence and give us the time of day - the best thing about this is that it is natural for him - he does not have to make a conscious effort.

I'm going for something frivolous - the WINK! Especially the rare right-eye wink. How could you not fancy a bloke with a wink like that? (And I do mean the wink - that's not a euphimism for something else.....!!!)

I love all the things you all have listed.........they all make Rufus uniquely Rufus!
I would add the way he looks at the camera when he's being photographed. And the way he puts his arm around fans and draws them close to him. And how he doesn't take himself SOOO seriously and is willing to laugh at himself.

I've been enjoying reading this page so much because I can imagine Ruf in my mind when I read what everyone has written. This particular statement has gotten this picture in my mind--not of Rufus in any particular movie--but of Rufus as a mime! Just imagining him as a mime among the crowd in Central Park or a busy city street is very entertaining! I think he would be able to carry on for hours.

I don't think he'd be able to carry on for 2 minutes. The not-talking part would do him in. But you've made me laugh and I'm enjoying the image. I'm thinking of one of those gold statue people...

I actually had the white painted face image of him! But either way, you're right. He probably couldn't hold out for an hour. I was just thinking with those face expressions, if he could keep quiet , he would make a great mime!

I like his lazy eye, and his infectious laugh. Me too! (Did the eye thing show more when he was younger or am I mistaken there?) It's almost unbelievable that an actor of that quality and looks can indeed be such a nice person as he seems to be. So often, the brilliant artists are a***oles ... while he appears so good-natured. I also love his dry humour a lot.
