Apparently Flyboys is being released in the UK. There is a brief very well met mention of Rufus in the review of the film where they managed to salute his face and his acting all in one sentence: Re: James Franco: But there is a worrying blandness in his recent performances. He was especially weak in last year's Tristan And Isolde, in which he was acted off the screen by another heart-throb whose good looks have been a mixed blessing, Rufus Sewell. It's as though Franco has been much too busy taking handsome lessons.www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/reviews.html?in_article_id=459188&in_page_id=1924

Franco is a bit of a Neanderthal as far as I 'm concerned. He's got that heavy jaw and low hanging brow... I'd never think of him as handsome. I just wondered why his knuckles weren't dragging on the ground. The way he kept crying in T+I made me wonder if they thought it would somehow make us favor him over Rufus and have the entire thing make sense. Ah well. I adore Rufus in T+I. Nothing would have swayed from his side, nothing...

I don't think he's handsome though I'm sure he appeals to most 13 year olds. He's not my type and the designer hair style, waxed chest and gym body were ALL wrong for the period!! I meant that his expression throughout screamed, "here I am, the handsome, angst-ridden one!" The writer was right about his being acted off the screen by Roof.

I don't think he's handsome though I'm sure he appeals to most 13 year olds. apparently not as they were who the picture was marketed toward and I think most of them liked Rufus too. Oh well that's not even fair, now is it. Some of the best in the business have been acted off the stage and screen by Rufus whether he means to do so or not. You're talking about one of the worst. Still JF is supposed to be some sort of heartthrob for someone or another (actually this is a bit of mystery to me too. I think Fox had one tee vee show where the teen set loved him but I don't think anyone has much cared for him since which is typical of Hollywierd.) I wonder how many reviews and articles and awards are going to have to come along saying Rufus is brilliant and sexy and the best thing in a film before anyone is ever going to take notice... we'll probably have to get rid of all the boy MBAs making pictures out here and let the people who love them get back to making them before that happens.

Both my daughters think JF is hot. They are 15 and 17..........so that tells you something! I will say they liked Rufus better in T&I, but that could be because I had all their priviledges in my hand and would take them all away had they said otherwise........

I disagree with the "handsome lessons..." as well but at least someone noticed (other than us) how terrible his performance was.

I disagree with the "handsome lessons..." as well but at least someone noticed (other than us) how terrible his performance was. Oh lots of people noticed Rufus acted him off the screen. The reviews at the time were uniformly disparaging of James Franco and uniformly glowing for Rufus. To James Franco's credit he might not have looked so bad if the rest of the cast weren't so good. And making him a rival for Rufus... well now that's just silly. The "boys" in Hollywood are just delusional. There is no other way to explain casting James Franco and marketing that film to the teen set. Funny thing is I know tons of people who have since seen it on video and loved it--would have seen it at the theatre if it had been properly marketed...

I do my tiny bit by always making sure his movies are on display at the library when they aren't checked out. T & I never stays on the shelf for more than a few hours.

I just wondered why his knuckles weren't dragging on the ground. I nearly choked on my water when I read this! I'm surprised the director (or SOMEONE!) never told James to at least change his facial expression once in a while! They could've just taken a picture of his face, then 'pasted' it on his body through the whole movie! ;D Another thing that I kept thinking about during the movie, is that Rufus seemed too young to be Tristan's "father-figure". So, out of curiosity, I looked James' birthday up on imdb....they're only about 11 years apart in age.

I never heard or saw anything about it till I saw it sitting "on display" at the library and I've never seen it there again, evidently it's very popular. I only grabbed it because I love the genre - I'd never heard of Rufus Sewell. Now it's been almost a year and 25 dvds later and I'm still searching for more.......

Good job, Ree! I have a particular fondness myself for T&I because it's when I first became hooked on Rufus. You are all right about the marketing (or lack of it) because I just picked up the movie along with a few others at Blockbuster when we had our friends from Pa. staying at our house for several days. After watching it with them, I watched it several times on my own and, of course, wound up buying it. JF reminded me a little of a spoiled child--his "whininess" really gets to me in this movie so I always fast forward past that! However, Rufus' performance . . . now that's another matter!

But I don't recall them even mentioning Rufus or showing his picture except fleetingly. It was all about this Romeo and Juliet love story, blah, blah, blah... The funniest was my father who absolutely loved it. That right there should tell you they were marketing to the wrong audience. Of course in LA when you go to a screening of a film they don't want anyone over the age of 49. They won't give them the passes. And they really don't like anyone out of their 30's. So perhaps that gives you an idea of why you see the crap you see.
