I thought it would be fun to share little tidbits of Rufus info that you thought was interesting, or funny, or whatever....
I don't remember the EXACT story word-for-word, but I remember reading that he is a sleepwalker. And that he once woke up naked in a hotel lobby, and the lady working there ran away from him (or screamed? or both?) when she saw him (I wish I would've seen that!). Then he yelled, "It's not what you think!"
It gave me a good laugh! (If I can find the article again, I'll post it in here!)
Got any others?

Interesting story, foolish girl ran away you say? I have heard a mention of sleepwalking, but haven't read that particular article. Hope you locate it. Off hand I can think of one random piece of info. to share, but since I want to make a direct quote I'll need to check my source again. Great idea for a new thread Ms. Oct.

Don't bother with the article, because it was greatly exaggerated in the press. (I know - what a shocker) I got the story direct.
He was in Bournemouth with Yasmin and did indeed sleepwalk and was indeed in his birthday suit, but only got as far as the hallway outside the room and a bellman snapped him out of it and quickly gave him a towel.
The newspapers had him parading naked through the lobby and down onto the beach!
I believe just the one guy got to sneak a peek. ;D

I liked the story of him teaching Sophia Myles and Bronagh Gallagher how to eat oysters when they were filming Tristan & Isolde in Ireland. Washed down with copious amounts of Guinness, no doubt!
Funny thing is, it doesn't seem James Franco was invited to join them....!

Ok I finally located the interview I remembered. I found it to be very interesting, but also very sad, because it doesn't sound as if he had anyone he felt comfortable confiding in at the time.
When Roof was a boy, sometimes when he was alone, he'd have panic attacks about self. He'd suddenly become self-aware to the extreme: " Of suddenly being aware of being this being, looking out from my eyes, inside this body. I would suddenly catch myself, like suddenly being aware of your own ego, of yourself, in your body, in the world for the first time. And becoming conscious, fully conscious for the first time and of it being shocking. Suddenly realizing how weird it is to be a conscious being, and I know it sounds like some weird gobbledegook, but this use to really, really disturb me. But, it faded as I grew older and learned to live semi-conscious like most people do, but it was like being suddenly fully conscious in a way that we aren't generally" I suppose we all reach an age of self discovery at some point in our childhood. I had experiences that were similar, yet almost opposite in nature. I spent the majority of time without much human companionship, and I was always in the moment, so to speak concerning my level of self-awareness. I was very much that 'aware' being looking out from my eyes, all the time. My difficulties arose when I was thrust into society. I would then have to emerge from the comfort of myself to try to interact with these people that I didn't really relate to. I found it disconcerting & very difficult to be myself, outside of myself. But this wasn't suppose to be about me....Just some random info. about Roof who has always been remarkably interesting.

! I have never read this interview before. How revealing it is about Rufus - to have so much introspection (although he probably wouldn't have articulated it to himself in this way at the time, just felt it) at such a young age. Most people never get to tap into their consciousness in this way - no wonder he is able to so completely become any character he takes on, later using those disturbing experiences in a positive way. And how amazing that he gave us this glimpse of his inner feelings. Thank you, Ree, for posting this - and for being brave enough to publicly share your own feelings about those sorts of experiences. GE2 (((hugs))) xxx

I meant to say, this is where I found the video clip on vuetosewell. I couldn't get it to link to this page. but this is what to look for if anyone wants to watch it. Clips From Film Scouts filmscouts.com Cannes '98 Caught In The Web" Inter(net)views, RealVideo: On "Dark City" as 28k RealVideo, 56k RealVideo, or 100k RealVideo. Thank you for your kind words GE2. I questioned the prudence of bringing up old quotes he may have regretted giving, but like you I think it gives us a glimpse into the man and actor he became.

I read that interview quite a while ago and was also struck by what he had said because I can remember that blinding flash of awareness when I was a kid as well. I guess I hadnt thought about it for a good many years now and just assumed it was one of those developmental norms that we dont talk about. He really is an incredibly perceptive person and you wonder how much of his public persona is an "act" and how much is himself in reality.

I had really bad panic attacks for years (even had to quit school for a while because of it), so I know how horrible they are. Poor Rufus!

I'm sure i read somewhere that Rufus and his brother were named after various names guessed in Rumpelstiltzkin (no idea if that's spelt right or not!). I think they got the pick of the bunch!!!!
