Okay, got this idea while posting in another thread. A lot of us say we'd love to see Ruf do a full out comedy. So what dream project would we love to see him in? For me, I'd love to see him play Elyot Chase in Noel Coward's "Private Lives". ( www.enotes.com/private-lives ) He's be just hilarious in it. Ruf's talents perfectly suit Coward's clever dialogue. Just think of what he'd make of lines like these: “Extraordinary how potent cheap music is.”
"You don’t hold any mystery for me, darling, do you mind? There isn’t a particle of you that I don’t know, remember, and want."
“Certain women should be struck regularly, like gongs”
Elyot: It doesn’t suit women to be promiscuous. Amanda: It doesn’t suit men for women to be promiscuous. Elyot is a pretty decent part for a light-weight farce. He is a self-absorbed chauvenistic prig, but still somehow charming and likeable. Just the sort of thing up Ruf's alley, don't you think, making a potentailly 2-dimensional character 3-D? I'm actually surprised he hasn't played this part yet. They usually have actors/actresses who are too old for the parts playing them (Alan Rickman, Richard Burton) so Ruf would be just about perfect right now. (Oh yeah, and there are a few scenes that require great physical comedy timing as well.) Anywhoo, that'd be my dream comedy to see Ruf in. Anyone else got one?

One of my all time favorite comedies was the Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin movie "All of Me" It was so funny and fresh when it came out. That movie might seem dated now, I haven't seen it in a while, but a remake with a witty new script and Rufus in the lead would be just great I think. His role would be as a lawyer who's female client has temporarily inhabited the right side of his body-it would be perfect in highlighting his comedic prowess. There were some great moments of tenderness required in the role too, which of course he would do with his usual sensitivity and realism. That's the first one I can think of off the bat, because there are so many great things they could do with that story, especially with the better special effects they have now for the body/spriit melding scenes.

I'd love him to play Elwood P Dowd in "Harvey", in a Jimmy Stewart sort of way. A lovely, gentle, whimsical comedy with a message about how out-of-the-ordinary minds are treated.

Ik like the Harvey idea, GE2! I also think he would be good in a Coen brothers film.

Get Shorty. Elmore Leonard. I'd love to see Rufus in something like that. It's something completely out of his current repetoire.

I would love to see him in a classic Almodovar comedy like the ones Antonio Banders used to do when he was an actor -"Women on the Verge of Nervous Breakdown", "Que he hecho para merecer esto" (What Have I Done to Deserve This?) or a farce like "French Twist" (American title) with Victoria Abril.

Mortimer Brewster, Arsenic and Old Lace. He could even do this one on stage.
