Thanks for the article Pen. I wonder if those who have seen this, think that Rufus could have played this role just as well as Clive? I know a little about the premise of the movie, but not much about the character that Owen plays. Just interested.

For what it's worth, it would have been a different picture in Rufus' hands. In fact we had quite a long discussion about it after seeing the film. I like Clive Owen quite a lot. I thought he'd make an excellent Bond though, just as Rufus, it probably wasn't in his list of ambitions.
So, I think it would have been a difficult film for Rufus as it was released because the action and violence are intended to affect the viewer more than the characters. We are the ones to be shocked by what has become of the world. We are the ones to come to a realization about how far we would go to save the last pregnant woman. We are the ones to be reminded what human life means. It's not that what is happening doesn't affect Theo. It does. But it's his world and he understands it. There isn't much of a journey for him. He knows straight way what he's willing to endure. Rufus would have wanted to play that journey and I'm not sure it serves the picture. It would have been just another in a long line of films that did not give him the opportunity to show what he does so well.
The picture I would have liked to have seen Rufus do was The Fountain. It would have been magnificent to see him express hopelessness to anger and all of the hues in between. There were many things about it that I found silly and pretentious but what a wonderful role for the right actor. I like Hugh Jackman too and he can act but he wasn't up to that role. It was like watching George Clooney in Solaris. You wanted to think he was good because he wanted it so badly but he just didn't have the depth of skill to portray what he was hoping for.

Thats funny, because just watching the trailers for The Fountain I found myself thinking the same thing. That this was one that looked like a good fit.
