The first shooting occurred at around 7:15 a.m. EDT in West Ambler Johnston Hall, a co-ed dormitory that houses 895 students, where a woman, and a male resident assistant, were killed. About two hours later, shots were reported in a classroom at Norris Hall, an engineering and science building. Authorities identified a "person of interest" in the first shooting, who is cooperating with them. According to the Washington Post, this "person of interest" was the boyfriend of the woman in the dorm and was released after cooperating. It is not yet confirmed whether the first shootings in the dormitory and the later shootings at Norris Hall are related. The motives of the gunman remain unclear, though the British tabloid Daily Mail reported that the shooter at the dormitory "was said to have quarreled in a dormitory with his girlfriend, whom he believed had been seeing another man. A student advisor was called to [deal with the fight]. But the killer produced a gun and shot dead both his girlfriend and the advisor." However, this theory is contradicted by a report in the Washington Post, which seems to indicate that the assailant was not the boyfriend of the girl, but rather someone else. Please give a moment to think about those at Viriginia Tech. This news has hit rather close to my home. Please do not forget The Massacre at Virginia Tech

I have a friend who is an engineering alumna of VT. She is very active in the University and is devastated. My condolences. This is so ubelievably sad that all these KIDS lost their lives and it looks like most of the killings could have been prevented. I can't even begin to imagine what their parents and families are going through knowing this.

I just finished reading profiles of many of the victims. Words can not express the tragedy of losing so many bright, talented people. What a sad, sad thing to have happened.

I live about 30 minutes from the VA Tech campus and I graduated from Tech's "sister school" Radford University (Tech used to be the all male school, Radford all female until the mid 70's when they both went co-ed). It was a horrifying and surreal experience seeing the national news broadcast just a few minutes from my front door, listening to the details of what happened. It's hard to believe the two year anniversary is coming up in just a few months.
