Creach could probably tell you Friar but she was probably looking at OTHER things & missed all the gruesome stuff. LOL It really is a very well made show & worth the watch.

Okay here's the poop Creach. Rome does start again in January in the US & the first episode will begin with the death of Ceasar.

I have only seen first season. At first I was disapointed, It was kind of showcase of Rome, obviously with great accurancy, I could imagine all the historians&etnografers& etc. consulted, but I thought all that stuff didn't give enough space for the story. It got much better towards the end, though.
But ... I have to admit this, Marc Anthony was one of the biggest disapointments for me. Perhaps I'm thinking Richard Burton's interpretation in that old film or something like that, but to this Marc Anthony was just too weak.

A man like Marc must have had a tremendous amount of charisma, to have lead the Roman army so successfully, which Burton was more fittingly cast, but I think Purefoy's, or rather the screenwriter's interpretation of him, is more accurately portrayed in the debauchery department & the nuances of his personnality. Richard was defintitely a better actor. James is easier on the eyes.

I finally got my hands on the dvd and watched the first season over the weekend. Maybe I was expecting too much after hearing how wonderful it was but I almost gave up and stopped watching on the first episode. I'm happy I didn't because by the 3rd episode I was most definitely hooked and really loved it. I think I experienced every emotion watching the gladiator scene from frustration to sad to mad - then finally tears! I don't know how they get around the censors, not only for the violence and gore but the sex and full frontal - I don't think I've ever seen a show that explicit on tv! Purefoy and McKidd are magnificent!

Glad you stuck around pattirose. ;D It just gets better & better....& racier. Some archeologists think that all that debauchery might have been part of the reason Rome fell, but it is just speculation. I really like history so it appeals to that side of me. HBO gets away with it because it is a cable channel.

Well I am just now watching episode one from season one! I told my daughter (who went to rent the movies) to get "Rome, first season"......and she only brought home eps 1 and 2 (the first DVD). So I just sent her back to get the rest of the first season which I'll watch tonight and tomorrow hopefully. I'm hoping to like it as much as most of you did!
I have to say the only names I recognized at all were James Purefoy, Ciernan Hinds and the director Michael Apted, only because of AG!
So is the season that just started in January season 2? Or will S2 be out on DVD soon and you all are watching S3?

Okay, I've heard enough about Rome & Purefoy's "charms" that now I want to see it too. Thanks for letting us know it's available to rent. But never fear, Purefoy can never replace Rufus in my heart, not even with that big ole "charm" I've heard so much about! ;D

Well, I've tried twice to post my thoughts on Rome and both times it wouldn't go, it gave me some error message..........so I'm taking that as a sign that I need to keep it to myself. I don't think anyone would appreciate my take on it anyway!
