Have you ever not wanted to see something, but got dragged anyway, only to find yourself really enjoying it? I can't think of a movie but I got a free ticket to a James Blunt concert and I thought I would hate it but it was actually a really good time...

Your right Hammy that was an awful movie but I think the '70s' were rife with some really bad ones. I can't believe you didn't like Pan's Labyrinth Uke! I thought it was so incredibly well made.

The worst movie I have ever seen was "Marie Antoinette." The movie started out well but quickly deteriorated. Once Marie Antoinette arrived in France the remaining 3/4 of the movie was a constant parade of gown fittings, people eating beautifully prepared food, partying, etc. There was nothing about what was happening outside the palace. The discontent of the people was never shown until the very end. It was a film with no real content, showing only the titillating side of Marie Antoinette's story, and so missed the opportunity of showing how the indifference of the French royal family caused the suffering of their people and brought about their own ruin. About halfway through the movie my husband and I looked at each other and said that surely this wasn't all there was going to be to the story, but, incredibly, it was. A waste of an afternoon!

Maxx, tell us a movie that you wasted your money on. Okay, worst films I've spent money on... Anything with Tom Cruise because I keep trying to see it(whatever it is) The Libertine Titanic Finding Neverland Troy (It was Eric Bana because I'm a sucker for 6'5" Aussie with a long dark braid and a body like a greek god) Willy Wonka (the new one) Pirates of the Caribbean, 1, 2 , 3...97...1204... Kingdom of Heaven--the one they showed in the theatres--the non directors cut Anything with Leonardo Di Craprio--Gangs of New York comes to mind Bless the Child (sorry Ru) Crash Sideways Phantom of the Opera (sorry Gerry) Beowulf and Grendel (sorry again Gerry) Beyond Borders (sorry Clive) That enough?

I totally agree on Sideways.........everyone kept telling me it was a masterpiece, it kept winning awards! We went to see it and I was so excited..............I was so bored I nearly fell asleep! It's not the worst film I've ever seen.......but it was a stinker! I also despise Tom Cruise and have never liked ANY of his films. One of the worst I remember (for me) was "Natural Born Killers"..........I just sat there thinking "what the he**"? I can take violence, I can deal with language.........but that was so over the top for me, I hated it. We wanted to walk out but we were with friends, in their car, and they LOVED it! Takes all kinds I suppose!

So I guess you aren't planning on see the new Tarantino movie that has the girl who looses part of her leg & they attach a machine gun to the end of it, so she can shoot people from the back of her boyfriends motorcycle? I want to add "The Benchwarmers" to this list. Talk about stink!

I liked "Closer" too--I saw it as a modern day "dangerous liasons" type of movie. I hated hated hated "Brokeback Mountain". I can't believe Ang Lee also did "Sense and Sensibility" which I loved. I also hated "Lost in translation" and "Moulin Rogue". If I ever had to torture someone--I would put them in a room and make them wathc all three in succssion

Oh my how could I forget Brokeback Mountain. What a boar. Moulin Rouge I watch because one of my favorite actors, Richard Roxburgh is in it, but I do the same thing I do with pictures with Rufus where I hate the film, I fast forward. The only other man I would fly round the world to see at the drop of a hat is Rox.
Hated Lost in Translation as well. Hated Cold Mountain.
Love Closer in play and film form. Wouldn't it be fun to see Rufus play Larry? Of course convincing someone to cast him in that role instead of Dan would be a real trick.

I love Brokeback Mountain! Wouldn't it be fun to see Rufus play Larry? Dream part!! "Hable con ella" was another stinker for me. I also wasn't too into "La Mala Educacion" and they are the only two Almodovar's I've seen so I'm very hesitant to see anything else Almodovar.

I didn't care for "Lost in Translation" either........another one I really wanted to like, but didn't.
Also didn't like Epic Movie.........we saw that last week and it was worse than I could have imagined. One or two crude jokes is fine.........but two whole hours of it was too much!

The most recent film that forced me to apologise to my buttocks for forcing it to sit, growing carbuncles while I watched it, was the Black Dahlia. The Black Dahlia murder case itself is fascinating, but this was a steaming pile of poo.

Apart from the low quality of the whole adaptation, I think that Scarlett Johannson is really overrated. She has a beautiful face, no question, but her talent and her charisma aren't that good.

I couldn't even imagine Rufus in that role. That character was so completely closed down. It would have been really interesting to watch him struggle to keep a lid on his natural exuberance and transparency. Very interesting. It might have been a tolerable film then. I think I'd like to see him in something where he had to dole out his emotion with careful measure. It would certainly be a challenge... but what? hum?
At any rate, I had a friend who raved about it and I said, now if these two people were heterosexual what would you think of this film? My friend thought for a moment then said, pretty boring. I said, so why just because these two men are having a relationship does it suddenly become the best picture of the year? My friend laughed and said, you know, you're right. I never thought of it that way...
