well I just watched the first episode of this and it will be the last one. I think CII has spoiled me for these sorts of things. I like the idea of doing a story about the life of Henry VIII but the execution of this one is--well let's just say they could have used a more compelling and competent actor in the lead. I know many people like Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Apparently I'm not one of them as I can't seem to find a single thing to recommend him. I think if you're going to make a series about a man of tremendous appetites then you'd likely better choose an actor who can convey that, and that's just a small part of what I don't like about this mini.

We don't have Showtime (or HBO or whatever this was on) and I really wanted to see it. Now, maybe not so much! I know when I first read that JRM was playing Henry VIII, I thought it was an odd choice.......but I didn't know that much about him. He just didn't seem right for the part to me........I guess that holds true! Thanks for the review........did anyone else see it and what did you think?

No one can play Henry VIII convincingly after seeing Ray Winstone, surely? A cockney king and still utterly breathtaking. Made me almost want to be Anne Boleyn. I'd like to see him do something with Rufus. I know he was in MMFD&L, but didn't really play opposite the boy wonder.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is fine in some roles (Match Point) but I really recoiled at him playing Henry. Yes, Henry was at one point a very handsome and THINNER man than we are used to seeing, but NOTHING like JRM!!!!

I will shamefully admit that I only watched Henry VIII because I'd heard Sean Bean was in it. By the time he made an appearance I'd long forgotten about him, I was so into the movie and Winstones performance. I was surprised at how good the movie was and really enjoyed it. Ray Winstone did mighty fine job with that role.
