You know I really love the tone of the Woodlanders. I just wish they could abandon the story.  There are so many really beautiful scenes in this picture. I love all of the bits with the apples and the harvest--everything where Giles is working with his hands and the earth and his animals. There is a warmth and colour that seems to be missing from much of the rest of the picture. I'd like to think it's intentional and the director planned it that way but I have more of a suspicion that somehow Rufus planned it that way from his character's point of view and Giles affection for the earth and the animals is what colours the film. I have great affection for this film if only they could get rid of everyone but Giles, Marty, everyone who worked for Giles and Mrs. Charmond because she adds a nice foil to the story. Oh well. |

Because I'm out of town at the end of next week which is the end of the month, let's close this one up on Sunday June 24 at midnight BDT as right now it looks as if we will be having a run-off.
