Being known as a total photographic numpty and being incapable of getting a half decent shot of my gorgeous granddaughter despite some erratic but amazing other scenes, yesterday I succumbed to a new camera. And yes, it has a Leica lens!!!! I originally thought I would go with a neat little Canon but couldnt live with only a 3x zoom and I got seduced by a Panasonic with 10x zoom but still pocketable and it has the Leica lens - if it doesnt take good pictures of my granddaughter I am going to have to take it back and get a camera that comes with a man to take the pictures I keep thinking that I should have been on the Suze Orman "can I afford it" segment but it's too late now and I hope I would have been "approved!"

We purchased the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3 at Christmas and have not regretted it one bit. Takes great pictures and so easy to use and a lovely big screen. I'm sure you will be able to take some beatufiul photos of your grand-daughter. Enjoy!

Good to hear some positive feedback Ruthie!!! So far so good - the screen is to die for, crystal clear. I have also had some amazing max zoom clarity which is great too. Just the right thing for my trip home next week as well!!!! I got the Tz5 and was dithering about waiting for the TZ50 with wifi but thought it wouldnt be worth the effort!!!

I recently purchased the Lumix DMC FZ18, one of the best cameras I own. I have the Kodak easyshare as well, but the Lumix has an 18X zoom and the quality is amazing, and so lightweight. I love that it takes other lenses as well. I have an old Pentax SLR (b4 digital) with a zoom lens but the thing weighs a ton. It takes film and took (takes) great pics. I haven't used it in years, I'm so spoiled now with digital, still there's nothing like film.

I looked at the FZ 18 but it was too big for what I needed - just basically a pocket camera. 18x zoom though - I am blown away with what my little baby can do with a 10x, I think x18 would be fantastic. It did take some lovely holiday pics though so next week I get to check on what it can do with the granddaughter (if only she will sit still enough for a moment!)

I love this camera, the Pentax I had still works great but the zoom lens I bought for it is just too heavy. THe Panasonic is a nice replacement and the pictures I've taken have taken came out rahter niceley. I'm not good at people pictures, except if their candid, so I stick to mostly nature pics, I recently went to an orchid show and the pictures came out so well. I'm very happy with it. I love B&W photos the best even for nature and people so this camera gives me the option for both. It is a little bigger than most digital cameras, and it's quite similar to my Kodak but much lighter. I'm having fun experimenting with it. Good luck with your grandaughter!
