Details from this blog: startelegram.typepad.com/pop_cultural_district/2008/07/tca-cbs-day.htmlThis is the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour - which appears to be a chance for the press to quiz, amongst others, CBS executives about the upcoming shows. And....Rufus was there! July 18, 2008 Rufus goes American
Asked why his character has an American accent, Sewell says he wouldn't have played him if he was British because then the character would be just like him. "He's not me. He's got better lighting. And he's much much smarter."

You're welcome - I have my duty to do by you all, after all..... And there's more! From Daylife again www.daylife.com/photo/0eGedGrai19Ce/Rufus_SewellJulia Louis-Dreyfus, right, star of the CBS show "The New Adventures of Old Christine," arrives alongside actors Rufus Sewell, center, and David Zayas, at the CBS, CW and Showtime Press Tour Party in Los Angeles, Friday, July 18, 2008. From a blog: The British star Rufus Sewell made a very conscious decision to play an American character because he wants to definitely establish himself as different from his character. He also wants to avoid typecasting, and he would much rather play one strong character for a long period of time on TV than play several similar roles in a series of increasingly bad movies.www.buddytv.com/articles/eleventh-hour/live-from-the-tca-press-tour-c-21318.aspx

Wonderful! Thanks for posting all of this! The Orlando Sentinal has an interview with Rufus: "Eleventh Hour" remains a mystery, but Rufus Sewell could sell it"The best bet for success could be Sewell, the 40-year-old British actor who has appeared in everything from "Middlemarch" on TV to "The Legend of Zorro" at the multiplex to "Rock 'n' Roll" on Broadway. He played Alexander Hamilton in the HBO miniseries "John Adams." His recent movies include "The Holiday," "Amazing Grace" and "The Illusionist," in which he played Crown Prince Leopold." blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_tv_tvblog/2008/07/eleventh-hour-r.html

Another interview from Friday (Maxx has already linked to it on www.roofsewell.com, but what the hey, let's have it here, too!): Sewell Avoided U.K. Eleventh
British actor Rufus Sewell, who stars in CBS' upcoming SF series Eleventh Hour, told reporters that he avoided watching the U.K. series on which the show is based and doesn't want to be compared with original star Patrick Stewart.
"I think I'd heard a little about it, but when it was on in England, I was out of the country," Sewell said in a news conference at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif., last week. "When I realized that it was based on that series, I studiously avoided looking at it. I mean, for me, the fact that they're casting me as opposed to Patrick Stewart means I don't need to worry about trying to be like Patrick Stewart, because, obviously, you'd get Patrick Stewart if that's what you wanted."
Eleventh Hour, from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, follows Dr. Jacob Hood (Sewell), a brilliant biophysicist and special science advisor to the government, as he investigates scientific crises and oddities. He is called in at the 11th hour and represents the last line of defense.
"I really like the character," Sewell said. "I really like the fact that [he's] really, really smart, who also had a little bit of mystery and was quirky and idiosyncratic and not without a sense of humor. And at the center of it, ... there's a slightly screwball element."
Sewell said he personally didn't get involved in researching the scientific themes of the show, but added that he has faith in the writers, who include a rocket scientist from NASA, a science journalist and other technical experts on staff.
"I'm by nature a truant, and I've always tried to avoid work," Sewell (The Illusionist) said. "But, yes, I completely trust--in terms of the team of writers, the background work--that it wouldn't be a matter of checking up to find that they've got their facts wrong. But [I'd like to do] whatever work I can do to back that up so I do know what I'm talking about, and I think I'm at the beginning of quite a big journey of education in many wide-ranging subjects."
The show's executive producer, Cyrus Voris, said he wants to keep the series as acccurate as possible. "Danny Cannon, our director, mentioned that one of the things he loved is that after every episode, he hopes that people will run off and start Googling the topic of that particular episode and find out all this stuff," Voris said. www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?id=57930I LIKE "quirky"!
