GE2 Thanks for the link. How ever do you find these gems? He looks adorable in black and white, and he is so down to earth as Peach said. Great interview, just wish it was longer.

Hello all, Kat here. I am a lurker from WAY back and this little interview has brought me out of the shadows so to speak!
First of all I have to say - God, he looks gorgeous!!
Whew, now that I got that out of the way, let me say I felt rather proud listening to him. In many of his past interviews he was so self deprecating, almost to the point of putting himself down. Of course he is humble and that is one of the qualities that makes him so lovely. But I would often think, "Geez, Rufus, give yourself a break! You're are so much better than you give yourself credit for!"
I couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride to hear him say that he thinks directors/industry people who like him seen intelligent (even if he was joking a bit) and that he "can do a lot of things," (not just villain roles). I'm glad to see he is more comfortable owning up to his great talent.
You go, baby!! ;D

"unless I turn out to be wrong!"
... said he hesitantly! LOL
Ditto Moonweaver and Maxx on being happy to see Rufus saying "I can do a lot of things". Hell, yes!
Aw, Roof, just keep on keeping on!
p.s..: is anyone else just befuddled by what almost seems like a media blitz? They're selling Rufus, they're pitching him. I mean, I know that's what they do in LA but this is Rufus... it just seems so foreign to the whole concept I have of 'Rufus, the institution'. And quite apart from my own - obviously not entirely accurate or educated - impression of him, but the sheer fact that for so long H'wood would more or less overlook him when he did "A Knight's Tale" and "Zorro" and "Tristan and Isolde", now they want a piece of him?? Know what I mean?

Welcome Moonweaver, it's sad that producers of most tv at least here in the states don't give us credit for being at least halfway smart. Everything seems to be "dumbed" down, for no other reason than to appeal to the lowest common denomiinator. How many times are movie endings changed b/c so called test audiences didn't like the ending. Nevermind that it was the director's original intent. It's very sad. Those of us in the know understand how very talented this man is, and what he is capable of even though H'wood hasn't grasped that concept quite yet; and I know we are all a little but infatuated with him. He is soooooooooo humble and a big breath of fresh air at least for me, so many time vacuous, untalented actors (dare I use that word) are thrust upon American audiences b/c of their so called box office success. I admire foreign audiences on the whole esp. in the UK, where often if you age, as we all do, you can still get work. In the states if you hit the other side of 30 you might as well kiss your career goodbye. Save for Streep. I appologize for the long windedness, I feel the need to vent. I wish only the most succes for Ruf, and hope that H'wood if that be his choice uses him to his full potential. I hope he decides to more stage work too, when his sked permits.

Know what I mean? I don't think there is anything mysterious about it. He's become a commodity in the Hollyweird sense. CBS has a lot of money riding on this series and they're pimping him for every dime he's worth. If it hits it will be worse. What I find so amusing is that it actually seems to have occurred to them that he's attractive and women might tune in to see him. That's unheard of in the entertainment business it's so "adolescent male" dominated. They are hardly mentioning Marley Shelton which is a shame actually. It would be nice to see them sell the show instead of the physicality of the actors. I don't know if I'd feel worse for Rufus if this thing hits or if it doesn't. From where I'm sitting it's difficult to choose when I say I wish him all the best.

First off, a big welcome to Kat - so glad you delurked, and hope you'll join in lots more now you've put your head above the parapet! Any other lurkers want to come out of the Dark Side?! I'm amazed that the attractiveness of the male actors isn't usually taken into account by the execs there - you'd think they consider that what goes for adolescent males goes for females, too. Where Rufus is concerned, I think it's a very astute move on the part of CBS. Yes, it's a shame the show itself isn't the focus, from a general publicising point of view, but I think what the interviews with Rufus are showing are that his attractiveness isn't just down to his looks, it's his whole personality - and that just isn't coming across in the clips from the show. How many of those of us who've met him have said he is even more handsome in real life? It's his animation, his enthusiasm, his sense of humour and his humility - the whole package, and that's coming across in the interviews. A few pundits (yeah, I know, what do they know?!) have commented that EH is the same-old, same-old formulaic TV, and at least the CBS execs have picked up on their unique selling point - Rufus! And I have to say here, it was a good move to scrap the pilot and re-shoot scenes (if that is what's happening), because some of that dialogue was truly awful ("...ergo...." What??). Based on the clips from the pilot, I wouldn't be watching the series without our man. So, yes, I totally understand them selling the show via Rufus - let his charisma draw people in. It's also a great move on Rufe's part - people who have only seen him as the baddie now get to see what a warm, funny, lovely man he is and will hopefully clamour for more, and maybe he gets the comedic roles he is clearly still dying to play. That comes across so clearly in the new CBS clip that Rainy posted the link for on the News thread. Speaking of which, anyone notice he has a new mannerism? I'm sure I've never seen him "knit" his eyebrows so much! Just when I thought he couldn't get even more endearing.... Oh, same here, Maxx, same here. I especially worry that all the hoopla will change him, however hard he tries, and he won't be "our little secret" anymore. I can't imagine the days of being able to meet him comparatively easily (e.g.at stage doors) can continue if it's a big hit. On the other hand, whether or not Eleventh Hour is a hit, many more people will want to see more of his work, and maybe those who wouldn't have given a second thought to seeing Downloading Nancy and Vinyan will now watch them for him. And maybe those execs will view their own press clips and give the man a comedy! Hit or not, I think this could be a win-win for Rufus.

I'm amazed that the attractiveness of the male actors isn't usually taken into account by the execs there - you'd think they consider that what goes for adolescent males goes for females, too. They don't care. Women don't matter. It seems women might be a tad more sensible about how they spend their advertising dollar. Where as that precious 15 - 35 year old male demo will pretty much slurp up any swill dished out to them. If the quality of film gets any worse because of it, I may never see a movie again. I think we've hit a new low this past summer in complete and utter dreck. And the studios are paying for it with dumbfounded looks on their faces. I don't think you need to worry about Rufus. It will take a lot of success before he really gets that he's not an ordinary person.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone!
Like ukelelehip, I am also astounded by all this mainstream media coverage. I nearly fainted in the grocery store checkout line when I saw him on the cover of TV Guide. TV Guide!!! It is unbelievable. Never would I expect to see Rufus on the cover of such a publication. It is quite daunting to think what will happen if this show is a hit or sinks. I just really hope that either way, the outcome ends up being in his favor.
