Eleventh Hour 105 - POSSIBLE SPOILERS

Okay, I liked last nights episode of EH. It was the best thus far. Nice to see Hood as not just some weird geek who can't get a date and is so clueless he can't talk to a woman without stammering. Clearly his work still comes first(Or maybe it's Rachel, too soon to tell) but the point is he has a human personal side. Like the new hair and the lighter make-up too. In the earlier eps they made him up so heavily it looked like he was going on stage. I like that Rachel seems to like him. Previously, in the context of the story it made sense she was irritated with him, but she seemed to be reacting to some written clue not what was happening on the screen because he couldn't have been much more charming.

And I liked Rufus last night. He seemed calm and relaxed. The cloak of Jacob Hood is becoming more his own apparently. I've only watched last night ep once at about midnight after flying for 7 hours but there were some really nice moments. He connected well with the children and the acting by and large from the guest stars wasn't embarrassing like it has been in some of the past eps.

I'm also pleased to finally see some of Rufus' native sparkle and intelligence show up. There is more of a twinkle in his eye and a "" in his stride which you don't often see in these shows. It makes him more interesting and in fact is one of the things I like very much about the character of Patrick Jane in the Mentalist.

I'm not hoping for much to happen with the stories. They are what they are and it's Jerry Brukheimer. But I am hoping to see the character of Jacob Hood evolve into something interesting in Rufus' hands.

that said, I wonder if he has any plans to go back on stage soon.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed and annoyed! When there is a good episode I can see it, damn, on tv.com they removed all full episodes. sig!
However, I'm happy the show is improving and Rufus can show all of his qualities.

I hope that his depth and versatility will be allowed to come forth in future episodes. I keep wondering if, because I know what he is capable of, I am left wanting for more. It is very interesting to watch his character grow with each episode.

The story is about a group of autistic children who have disappeared for a month then been returned as savants. It was another "parent run amok" story. A man was trying to save his autistic son by experimenting on other children who had the same type of autism. He was a surgeon and Hood stopped him before he could do surgery on another child.

Some of the children like the girl that was drawing, improved but others like the boy that played the piano did not. In the end they did surgery on all of the children and returned them to the way they were before.

Morally it was an interesting dilemma. I think the show took a strange slippery-slope approach to the topic since they seemed to be falling down on the side of the folks who don't believe in treating things like this because they are "gods work" rather than saying we don't experiment on people unless they can give informed consent though they did mention that. I'm hoping as time goes by Hood is a bit less rigid in his opinions. I would have liked to see him struggle a bit on this one since some of the children really did appear to be helped by what had been done to them.

At any rate it was a bit too black and white for me, but Rufus was entertaining as ever.

And does it bother anyone else that the government is making moral decisions for us in this show? They don't have a very good track record of that sort of thing in the US.

My oldest son was recently diagnosed with Autism. I loved this episode because of how well they explained how the mind of a person with Autism works. I related with the mother of the girl. If my son suddenly started communicating as a regular child I would be ecstatic. I liked how the girl jumped in with her own opinion though. They are people like everyone else inside. They have opinions and feelings. They just cannot express them in the regular way. I thought they dealt with this VERY well.

HOWEVER

I did not like how insistent they were with the mother. If I had been in a place like that I would have become extremely defensive. In a "back off!" kind of way. lol I would be worried about my child's welfare but if they seemed fine..I don't know. It is probably one of those situations you would have to be in to really know exactly how you would react.

I do agree that Hood should be a little more open about other opinions though. I can totally see him being pretty rigid at first though. People that are intelligent and KNOW it tend to be that way sometimes. lol I would like to see a gradual loosening up on that point.

One hesitates to say this but Hood has a few autistic tendencies himself - the lack of social savvy, obsessive behaviour etc I could see someone slapping an Aspergers diagnosis on him. However that doesnt stop me from enjoying it - am just about to watch this episode now as I didnt get chance to see it last night!
