Thanks, that was interesting! I always like to hear how actors are selected for the roles they play.

I didn't have the time to read it all, but the bits I did read were very interesting indeed. I really need to watch the Director's Cut!

After discovering Rufus in the wonderful Zen series I then set about finding out about his previous work and the first film that came up was Dark City (oh and The Holiday).I have been buying DVD's like there's no tomorrow but I always put Dark City on the back burner because I really have no interest in this genre. However I finally weakened after reading the reviews here and tonight I watched it. I have to say I was very impressed with the film , very atmospheric, definitely Film Noir and I thought that Rufus was fabulous in it (but what's new there) I really was not expecting to see it through but I know I will watch it again at some point.

There are a bunch of Region 2 DVDs on offer at amazon.co.uk (both used and new ones - the new ones are rather expensive, so you might also want to check ebay).

BB, make sure to look out for the Director's Cut version - much better than the original release.

BB, make sure to look out for the Director's Cut version - much better than the original release. I second that. If you get the oportunity watch the Directors Cut first, you feel like you're living in the movie. The theatrical version explains too much in the opening scenes. Once you're seen that the mystery is gone. It's a bit like watching a murder mystery and them telling you who the killer is at the very start!

Thanks for the tips! Some of the sellers on Amazon won't deliver to my home address :-( Will have to see if I can have it delivered to a friend in the UK :-)

He's such a chameleon, Kq, that's why - he really inhabits whatever role he takes on, so as you say, people unfamiliar with his work don't even realise it's him until later on.

Plus, Rufus doesn't confine himself to one genre so he turns up in some quite surprising movies.

So true. I have watched and enjoyed so many things he has done that I may have missed out on.

This review of Dark City just came up on a Google search, and while it's not entirely in favour of the movie, I found it quite interesting. (I wonder whether the reviewer ever saw the Director's Cut!)
