i just saw this delightful little romantic comedy and i just adored it. i was telling to robbiesheik: perfect remidy for the horrible day i had: a big coffee, a shish taouk sandwich, and a genuinely funny movie. for those who have not seen it, let's satisfy the rufian curiosity and rate it a 9.2 on the "lovable rufus" scale. he is just cute as hell, a bit chubbier, as i like him best - the locks, of course - a juicy, slighly tragic character with a loud mouth, comedy suits him so much better than the oversized clothes he wears that makes him look like - how did i say it, robbie? - a gentle giant. adorable through and through. *** sigh *** joseph fiennes. *** sigh *** adorable too. the screen play is just ingenious, what can i say, i totally bought it and never saw most of the jokes and twists coming, and some are huge. highly recommended as a feel good movie, and for your regular rufus fix. this kind of movies is actually good for you.

Yes I liked this one too. In several reviews I've read it mentions that he is a druggie. Unless I missed something in the US version I saw none of that. I did notice that he did drink alot, but I found it to be a smart script and touching too. My sister went to college with Monica Potter, and yes Joseph was smooth on the eyes. Sweet quirky film.
Yes please we need more comedy from Ruf, I sound like a broken record, but it's true. We fans are starved for it.

well, it's not that you sound like a broken record, you are only stating the truth. directors might be ignoring a great comic actor here. all great comics have a darker side, all great comics are also great drama actors. i believe it has to do with , again, BRAINS. there, now i am sounding like a broken record.

Never, as my sister said, comedy is hard and it's based on cruelty. I fall on a banana peel and that's painful and not funny when you fall on same peel it's hysterical. It's also best in three's, not based on anything scientific it's just true. Comedy is in fact tragic. And yes, most comedic actors work quite well when cast against type, i.e. Robin Williams in One Hour Photo.
Comedy is also hard, I learned that the very early in life. I think I was seven, we are all pretty loopy in my family and I didn't take to "funny" things, but was told if you want to survive you had to develop a sense of humour. I have lived up to that ever since. I have as many of my friends and family told me developed a biting sense of humour and a very dark quick wit. I think, no I know it's a defensive thing for me, but that's ok, it's what has gotten me thru some really difficult times and I've learned to rely on it to keep me sane. Lord knows it's come in real handy lately. It also affords me the opportunity not to take things so seriously. Something we should all take to heart.

If you haven't seen At Sachem Farm or Uncorked you need to take a look at that. I know more than one person who ranks that as one of their favorite Rufus films of all time.

ah... but its a delight. i am blessed by having a lebanese take-out in the neighbourhood... they pile macerated chicken breasts on a huge skewer, which is placed on a kind of vertical bar-b-cue... the skewer slowly turns... until the chichen is tender, and roasted just right... the cook, with a big knife, cuts the most perfectly roasted bits, while singing intriguing songs from his native country... the chicken is then served on a plate with delciously perfumed rice, and garlic sauce... or, in the case of the sandwich, on a pita bread, with lettuce, marinated vegetables, and this wickedly divine garlic sauce... oh i need another one.

I watched this tonight and found it very amusing. If I didn't adore Rufus, I'm not sure how much sympathy I would have had for Frank. Sometimes I wish I could see Rufus movies with a non-devoted eye, just for a more objective assessment. I'll have to have a second look to appreciate his performance again.
I was completely taken by surprise, by the surprise with the neighbor. I couldn't place where I'd seen that actor before, he is very appealing. Was it in Henry VIII?
I think Monika Potter is more suited to the smaller role she had in Con Air, or to TV appearances. Does anyone else find that she seems like an imitation Julia Roberts? I didn't find anything admirable, attractive or interesting enough in her character to have had such an impact on three such different men, but it was easy enough to suspend my disbelief.

I saw a very similar movie with Monica Potter, called "I'm with Lucy," where she is with several different guys and trying to choose among them, and I totally agree with you, lizap. Why is she always being cast as some man magnet? Looks have nothing to do with it--I just find her brand of "cute klutz" annoying, not endearing. And now she's playing a slightly older version of the same character on that new TNT show, Trust Me. Yuk.

She's doomed to playing these roles. She was in a Seinfeld episode, she was the understudy to Better Midler's character in richelle, richelle. She funny but once your stereotyped it's inevitable that she'll end up playing the same roles. It's the same with Ru, if he wasn't so adamant about playing the same roles he wouldn't be where he is. B/C of his looks directors envision him playing the same roles, time after time, it's unfortunate but that's how it works. Give him credit for holding out for something better.
