i have gotten over the nasty habit of religiously watching every award show on tv, except for the oscar. so i am planning it big. i am trying to get onlineto see the red carpet thing and everything. i registered on a "guess who wins" type of contest on the oscars' website and i was at once put into a group of fans from all over the world. so far, no one agrees on who winners will be, but every one is eager to see jackman host. we're all in for the big show! since there are people from UK, france, Belgium, pakistan, india, moldavia, etc, one group member asked "were are the americans" to which was answered: "they're the nominees!" i think this is going to be fun tonight.

Thanks for starting this thread, tipou! I'm very interested to see how Hugh Jackman will fare as host. I expect he'll get a good reception. I've not seen any of the nominated films, but that's usually the case.

I missed the Golden Globe and SAG awards this year and have actually seen the frontrun contenders this year, so looking forward to it. I'm crossing my fingers for Slumdog Millionaire,Mickey Rourke, Kate Winslett and Robert Downey Jr.

i certainly will have to pinch my nose and watch this movie with micky rourke, who i cant stand since after rumble fish.
i would actually light candles in a church (!?!) if robert downey jr. won. this guy is THE most underrated actor of all times (partly his fault, but nobody's perfect).
as for little kate, i love her to death whatever she does so i am not objective.
but i have not seen the flicks... before joining this board, i had a serious movie breakdown. thanks to you all, thanks to the green-eyed wonder.
what i am looking forward to, since i have not seen any of those flicks, is to see jack nicholson's grin, hugh jackman's tux, and all those unbelievable gowns.
oscar night is my night to feel totally superficial. i like that.

Tipou, I am so there with you regarding Robert Downey, Jr. I've been a huge fan ever since Chaplin. Actually, I would be happy about any of the winners except *clears throat* Anne Hathaway. Granted, I haven't seen Rachel Getting Married so I really should keep this to myself. But I just can't! WTH? Did she really pull something serious off? I'm done being catty. May the best person win.

That is the loveliest, most sensitive, most sincere Oscar night I can remember. Who thought of that superb way to present the actor awards, I wonder. How much more meaningful it was than the usual reading of the nominations, and the nominees were obviously all so moved. That will make it a special night to remember even for the ones who didn't win. I'm really impressed.
Yes, Jackman is such a darling, and so ridiculously beautiful and talented. I thought he was a wonderful host.
How about the Franco routine? I'm sure they did that just for us, no one will ever convince me otherwise.

I kept surfing to the CBC's ABBA doc. and back to the Oscars so missed a lot of action. I'm so sorry Rourke didn't win . I enjoyed Sean Penn in Milk, but I don't think his performance was as solid as Rourke's in the Wrestler. I enjoyed Barbara Walter's interview after with Rourke, though. What a struggle he has. Also sorry Downey lost , but hadn't seen Heath Ledger's performance .Hooray for Slumdog Millionaire and Kate Winslett!

I caught glimpses of the show while I was at work. Hugh Jackman is an absolute doll and I knew he'd be great as a host since he did such a great job with the Tony awards a few years ago.
I haven't seen any of the nominated films yet either. I was happy Heath Ledger won for best supporting actor; he did an amazing job as The Joker and the acting world lost a great talent with his passing. The Barbara Walters special came on here before the Oscars but since I was working, I couldn't actually hear the interviews although I loved the part where Hugh got up and was dancing and singing for Barbara! God, what I wouldn't give to have him to that for me!
