hehehehe you won't believe it... i missed the franco routine!!! tell me about it, though, please tell me!!!
that WAS a very, very sincere and touching award ceremony, much different from what they made us used to. i loved it too, how they ask those acting icons to give, not only oscars, but proper tributes to actor nominees.
hey, even dannny boyle paid them the compliment: it was a lovely show!!!
apparently, hollywood can have a heart.
and kudos to hugh jackman, really. gorgeous, talented, entertaining, discreet, enthusiastic, funny, elegant, oh my god, this man is perfect.
and it was not even a long show! so not boring. loved it!

I can't believe you missed the Franco routine! I thought for sure you would be throwing radishes at your TV.
I wish I could remember it in more detail. It was obviously a pre-filmed little skit. It was Franco and another guy (Seth something?) sitting on a couch being dorky. I think it started with them wondering aloud why certain films didn't get Oscar nominations (the kind of comedy this other guy stars in?). There was a rapid series of clips from movies shown on their TV screen (they would switch back from showing the two guys and the TV screen), and they would be dorkily laughing at what they saw on the screen and commenting that, 'yeah, that should have had an Oscar.' Then they showed some clips from 'The Reader' and 'Doubt', and the two guys continued laughing dorkily, as though those movies were supposed to be funny, too. I think the filmed skit ended with a clip from 'Milk', which showed Franco kissing someone, perhaps Sean Penn? Somehow this all led to the two of them (Franco and the other guy in the skit) joining with a celebrated Director of Photography (a foreign name that I can't remember) to make an award presentation -- presumably for Cinematography or something related? And they pointed out that it was the first time a DP had ever been a presenter.
Maybe someone else can give you a better account!
edit
I googled Franco Oscar skit and here is a little mention that came up:
"James Franco and Seth Rogen re-imagined their "Pineapple Express" duo to look at the year in comedy . . . ."

What a great Oscars night! I love the way they moved through how films are made- great format. I loved the five actors and actresses giving the awards for "best" near the end. It was touching to hear the lovely compliments to each of the five nominees in each category, so they received recognition for their performances whther they won or not- and from seasoned pros no less! Spohia Loren looked like a regal goddess as usual. I was thrilled to see Jerry Lewis' award! Hugh Jackman rocked as a host and I loved the musical number- even though he was off key in spots. And I have to say it.. What in blazing hell was Jessica Biel thinking wearing that ... that... whatever the **** it was? Huge dinner napkins? Swag curtains? I haven't a clue!
