I suspect some people might think he's selling out - but I swear (I only caught the end, and haven't seen it again yet) it was Ru doing the voice-over for an ad on TV for a children's painkiller.
My friend who used to be an agent tells me that ads pay very well - so good on him for doing something that provides an income (aren't residuals wonderful?) while he holds out for that next special role.

I would never think of that as selling out - it is more of Survival of the Fittest. It is also very clever, peek the curiosity of the viewer with that lovely voice.

Rufus has such a distinctive voice. I've never heard another similiar voice, so maybe it was him. Did the ad work? Did you run out and stock up on the children's painkiller even if you didn't need it? ;D How could you resist that voice?

;D This is so funny, GE-2, was about to start a new "Calpol TV Ad" thread! My friend in the UK told me about it and it's on my latest recording of Doctor Who that she sent me. But the best news is you all can listen to it here: www.calpol.co.uk/Let it play once through to load properly and listen again! Rai

Yep, that's the one!
I only caught the last couple of words, and of course they didn't show the ad again while I was watching (I rarely watch commercial TV, so it's a miracle I came across it at all!)
Thanks, Rai!

Let it play once through to load properly and listen again! I had to listen twice, too. The first time it was breaking up, but the second time it was perfectly clear. And it is Rufus, I'm sure of it! Thanks, Rai, for posting that. It's his voice, no doubt! I wonder if he's done any other commercials? I'm sure those of you in the UK will be listening for us and let the rest of us know of any discoveries you make.

Rufus did a voiceover for BP back around the time he was doing Macbeth. He voiced it in person for me (right in my ear in a loud pub). ;D

I think this is fabulous. Everyone does them these days. I'm glad he's doing this because I want him to hold out for that great role.

He voiced it in person for me (right in my ear in a loud pub). ;D LOL! I read something in Michael Palin's diary (the published ones from the 70s, not the one he keeps under his pillow ) about how he was keen to do voice-overs because it was another way of performing and to keep fresh. Also, I bet his Mastercard contract is what enables Billy Crudup to do artsy films and Tom Stoppard trilogies so all hail voice-overs!

The Calprofen one is definitely Rufus. I reckon his voice was chosen for its soothing qualities. I'm pretty sure he did one for Maxjet about a year ago, too. Good on him, school uniforms don't come cheap
