This is becoming a crazy pattern. My (pre-ordered) US DVD of Tristan & Isolde arrived less than a week after I was finally able to see the film in the cinema here in the UK (and that only after phone around and driving 20 miles to one of the limited number of screens that was showing it.) Now my US DVD of Illusionist (released Jan 9) is on its way, and will arrive a month before the film opens in cinemas here. I wonder if the PTB realise that some people won't even bother going to the cinema if they've already seen it on DVD? (The bootlegged versions will be over here even if people haven't forked out for a legit region 1). Or maybe they'll just look at the 'poor' cinema audience numbers and hammer another nail in the coffin of independent film releases. Sigh. I'll still be going to the cinema, of course, but I sure as hell won't be able to resist watching that DVD when it arrives. Long time no new Ruf!

A lot of times I don't go out to see films because they're not playing at a theater within resonable distance or because they only play for a few weeks. Both of these happened with The Illusionist. Seems like films are being given less and less time to run.

I bought my copy of The Illusionist last weekend & haven't had time to watch it yet. Funny thing is my daughter & grandson really want us to all sit down & view this together, which in itself isn't a bad thing but I know that while we are all sitting there watching Rufus in that bad hair & mustache they are all going to be thinking "What does she see in him?" because he truly doesn't look his best in this one, & he really doesn't exude the sexiness that I see in him. Oh well another night of "but look at what a good actor he is!"

I was lucky enough to see The Illusionist on a flight between Dubai and Glasgow and I thought it was wonderful. Rufus is wonderful, but I have to disagree that he isn't sexy in this. He doesn't look his best, but he just exudes charisma and sex appeal.
I can't work out why they have delayed the release on this so long in the UK. In these days of multiregional DVD players it makes far more sense to distribute it simultaneously.
It is definitely worth seeing.

That's because he's wearing a uniform, huh, huh? ;D I don't like him slicked down, much. I like the wild & loose Roof. I thought he looked pretty sexy when he was out shooting Bambi, though. (I know, I need help) Glad to see you got the opportunity to see this. So did you buy me anything in Dubai? ?

I agree that Ruf wasn't necessarily "handsome" in this........but he was a bit sexy! And he did have a charm, although it was sometimes rather cold. And his eyes conveyed something, can't quite put my finger on it........but there was something in his eyes and in his look that made him ever so slightly appealing!

Saw The Illusionist about a month ago in New York City, but it's only in one or two theaters now. My husband tells me it'll be out on DVD within the month and I'll purchase it then. Has anyone heard if the rumors are true that Rock 'N Roll will be coming to Broadway; it got such rave reviews in London that I will definitely jump on that play if it comes to NY, but I'm hoping that Rufus will be happy to come to Broadway. Does anyone know anything?
