www.karlhungus.com/2009/04/michael-bay-to-remake-tenant.htmlMichael Bay and Platinum Dunes is planning to produce a remake of Roman Polanski's classic The Tenant <.....> Writing the script is Scott Kosar who previously wrote the scripts for the Michael Bay produced remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror.
Talking about the project, Kosar said "We've been working on a number of films now that Michael and I have felt needed to be updated for today's audiences for some time, and The Tenant is one of them. Our story is about a young man named Andrew Tucker who rents an apartment and finds out that the previous tenant tried to kill herself. He begins to suspect that there is more to her suicide attempt, and that the other tenants of the building are part of a cult that worship an ancient Egyptian god who planned to sacrifice the girl, but she attempted suicide to get out of their clutches. But now they have their eyes on Tucker for their next sacrifice."
Producer Michael Bay has stated "With today's technology we can do a lot of things that the 70's film had only hinted at, so I think fans will be thrilled with our version. I've seen some of the storyboarding for the final set piece, and it looks like it's shaping up to be something explosive, the kind of thing that will knock people out of their seats and have them talking for years to come."
Other actors who've been cast are Jennifer Connelly and Rufus Sewell. No release date has been announced yet.Hmmm.....what do we think? (Or, given the date this has appeared, is it an April Fool?)

Yes, I saw that when I was searching for more info (in fact, there are a few other films of that name), but the plot isn't the same as the Polanski one.
If there is to be a remake, it wouldn't necessarily have to keep the same title.
I think we need to keep an open mind (and hopeful hearts?) for now.

GE2, thank you for alerting us to this great news. I hope that it is not an April's Fools joke !!! I read the link and I was disappointed that Rufus was not mentioned as the lead actor. But maybe that's good. Maybe that's because he would not have enough time to devote to the project because EH will be renewed for next season ?? Please keep us updated.

En francais, everyone, en francais! ;D www.imdb.com/title/tt0074811/Le Locataire was the official title back in 1976, apparently. I'm a big Polanski fan, but can't say I'm a Bay fan....but work is work, I suppose, and Bay seems to have those box office blockbusters. I have no info regarding the verity of this from any "inside" sources. Rai

Saw this last night and did some digging around as well. Just like GE2 I found nothing else anywhere about it. I'm a pessimist so until I see something concrete I don't believe it. lol

"le locataire" was a pretty good movie, starring isabelle adjani and polanski himself. i would be a very tough critic if this movie was the object of a remake. why all those remakes? nobody has a new idea??? as i remember it, there weren't that many big roles in it, so if rufus is involved and not playing the lead (he would not fit the character anyway), it has to be a smallish part. and it was a psycho-thriller not unlike "repulsion", not an egyptian-cult-gone-mad movie. this whole concept sounds quite weird to me. michael bay. yes, very weird.

Hello there, I'm the author of karlhungus.com and I thought I'd pop by and clear something up. Yes, this is an April Fool's joke, and to best of my knowledge, there is no remake of The Tenant planned. I wrote the piece as a fairly subtle joke, with the fact that so many remakes are being greenlit these days, it's something completely believable. The joke being that film-makers who are completely unsuitable to adapt it (Michael Bay) completely miss the point of the story and talk about special effects and set pieces. I mention Rufus Sewell because I think he's a great actor. I also did a similar joke last year ( here) and also mentioned Sewell. Anywho, sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for clearing it up, karlhungus. Guess your April Fool's joke might have been a tad too subtle for us mortals. Your taste in actors is impeccable, btw. Cheers, Rai

Sometimes even rumours would come truth, there just need a little spread...to someone's ears from web to web and mouth to mouth. I think Danny Boyle is great choice next time...Steven Spielberg?that's fine...or....Joel Coen and Ethan Coen...?ok...it's ok... but I think it needs a new schedule... heeheee~~~~such a great day~~~ Believe yourself, you can do it...... ;D cheercheercheercheercheer~~~~

Karlhungus, thank you SO much for clearing that up - although as you saw, I did have my suspicions!
I can now say "PHEW! Thank goodness for that!" I saw Bay's CV included The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror and Pearl Harbour, and my initial thought was "please, no."
It was actually the latter film that made me think it was a hoax - Rufus has been pretty vitriolic in the past about that, and I couldn't believe he'd work for anyone associated with it.
BUT.....as you can see, we (okay, me) leap on any news about Rufus! Thanks for taking the time and trouble to put us straight! ;D

I am so glad this is a joke, Michael Bay and Rufus would not mix very well, I daresay!
