I've been straggling with starting this thread for quite a long time... because I was a bit afraid of making all of you, Ladies, irritated or agitated, like:"God, how many times do I have to write about it?!" "Geese, that's annoying!" But well.. I'll try.. maybe you won't get mad at me;).. Which one of Rufus Sewells characters appears most alluring/endearing/fascinating to You? Do you have some "specials"? I know it might have been already mentioned in other threads but now I would like You to indicate specifically: "what IS it in (this) character that made me immediately pay my attention to him, that gave me a heart throb, or what is it that I found especially alluring, or charming.. something that sometimes made me grab my remote control (for example) and hit pause just to take a longer gaze at him" , something that made me incapable of getting the proper sleep for several nights.. and so on.... Again.. just to appease my curiosity:) for I'm very curious about that one.. And please don't beat me! <gets quickly into the cupboard, and timidly peeps her head out> Gabi

Gabi! Why on earth would any of us have to apologize for wanting to talk more in-depthly about anything Rufus related!! *Yanks you out of cupboard* Now you must sit there and listen to me blather on and on an on...hahahaha! (hey you asked for it.) Now then... my first ever experience with the green-eyed wonder was when I caught Dangerou...errr ooops... SORRY RUFUS.... I mean The Honest Courtesian on TV one late night years ago. I almost died. Seriously. I didn't understand how any living human could be that stunning. I think what really blew me away (besides the eyes, the hair, the body, the walk, the smile etc...) was his amazing voice. That voice truly left me melted, mesmorized and speechless LITERALLY for days. His voice and also (as many others on this forum have described more eloquently than I) his way of projecting thoughts and emotions through the amazing subtle changes in his expression. I was truly in awe of his acting abilty (NO SERIOUSLY). He portrayed so much beyond just the words he was speaking. So for me it is Marco (haha my FIRST RUFUS LOVE).I always considered him one of a handful of the most gorgeous men on earth after that, but he faded in and out of my mind as he has never been a mainstream type actor. ( which is SO COOL.)Then... (I actually just told a shorter version of this story to Rueful a short time ago) I got hooked recently on this COOL show called Eleventh Hour. XD Gradually, I started thinking OMG Hood is soooo HOT (and DAMN he seems awfully familiar....hmmm.) THEN VOILA!!! It hit me like about the third episode that it was Rufus Sewell...aka Count Adhemar ( humina humina)...aka Armand from Zorro (kinda creepy)......aka.....MARCO!!! After that I just went nuts searching out everything he had done between Honest Courtesan and Eleventh Hour, and have since realized I have missed SO MUCH. Now that I have been properly catching up on his works, I think my favorite character may be eccentric, hilarious and SEXY Petruchio...or perhaps... gentle, devoted and SEXY Lord Marke. Hmmm... choices...choices... Ohhh for Looks alone: *ahem* *cough* Agamemnon is HEART STOPPING. I still have not seen everything. I really look forward to Giles from Woodlanders and lots more. But as for "special" I will always love the proud, swashbuckly and SEXY Marco Venier. "I think I've missed you."

I first saw Rufus in "Illuminata" and thought what a cute boy. I was a mother with two baby boys of my own at the time and not really focused on much else. I saw Rufus in many different roles over the years but didn't realize as Famke says that he was the same actor. That just proves how amazing his range is. About two years ago I saw his performance as Lord Marke in Tristan & Isolde. I thought she must be nuts to give him up for that sniveling little Tristan. I watched for his name in the credits and Googled him. That lead me to this site and I am so glad I did. It has opened a whole new world of movies that I would never have seen but for Rufus being in them. My favorite would have to be Charles II. Rufus makes him so appealing and human. He gets to fence and ride horses (so powerful and sexy) and he ages Charles so masterfully, he is so believable that I actually Googled Charles II and read up on the real king. I think I developed a little crush on King Rufus. I am extremely happy that Rufus took the role of Dr Hood. Its a great character for him and I am adding my support to the renewal campaign using the CBS feedback. Pitzel

Geee! Me, after I'd spotted A Knights Tale on TV for the first time, I fell MADLY in love with my gorgeous Count Adhemar! (Famke, darling, you know something about that, don't you ;D ROTFLMAO) and the second was.. Eric Stark from Bless The Child.. as I mentioned in the other thread.. there WAS something both frightening and alluring in that man, moreover, I really felt some kind of a ... deep compassion towards this character, okay, I will confess to all of you (but please don't laugh ) in one scene concerning Starks person of course (i dont want to tell you which one, cause some of you may have not watched it yet, don't wanna spoil it to you) i burst out crying.. really..my eyes just filled with tears and I was weeping like a child I just felt like crying :"Nooooo! Hold on, honey, I'll get you out of there right now!"...dear Lord, it was unbearable!! It always p**sed me off, just as if the world was clearly divided in to goodies and baddies, and there's no chance for baddies to convert, because they cannot! yah? for the benefit for goodies always yearning to prove their advantage over eeeeeviiill!!! And there WAS something in Eric Stark that made me simply.. care for him.. that made me want to caress his cheek and whisper to him: "Everything is going to be all right, honey..just calm down.. you have to get hold of yourself..for Your own good.. I want to relieve your pain..." And yes.. Rufus was just Aaarrgh in this role! He looked so gorgeous in Black! And those grimaces, and the way he expressed his anger, especially when he was screaming: "Say It!"SAY HIS NAME!!!" "JUMP!!" he looked so frightening and so sexy at the same time...... It was like honey to my ears :] gwaaawh... Roof, I wish you screamed moooooore (but it's not necessary to make you look sexy of course!!!!!!) I also loved Him as Marco Venier and Frank *Thinking of You* Dear Mee! HE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MAN IN THE WORLD

I think I will always have a soft spot for Count Adhemar as that was when I first noticed Rufus. We had bought a DVD player and a Knight's Tale came free with it. The kids were watching it and I walked through the lounge and heard his voice, which got my attention. I like Count Adhemar because: A. He wears black leather B. He rides a horse magnificently C. He is not really interested in the leading lady, other than to get one over on Will D. He is very strong, passionate, arrogant and not very nice E. He would be completely different with me as I would bring out his kind, caring, loving side!!

Gabi, this is a great topic! Thanks for starting it. The problem for me is I can't pick just one top favorite. I'm too greedy.
Top Rufus character to spend the day with: Charles II, because I agree with Pitzel, Rufus made him so interesting and fully dimensional. I'd like to spend a day talking to him to see what makes him tick.
Top Rufus character to spend the night with: Lord Marke, because he's so unbelievably gentle and just a good and brave man. Plus, gorgeous!
Top Rufus character to spend a prolonged period of time with: Dr Hood, because he's smart and funny, so life would never be dull. Also, he's from modern times so I wouldn't have to deal with a drafty castle or island hut.
Top Rufus character to get an education from: Count Adhemar, because I really do need to learn new ways to commit old sins.
Top Rufus character to go swimming with: Agammemnon!!!!!

How sweet ladies!
I saw few flims and tv plays: dark city, The Legend of Zorro, Dangerous Beauty, Tristan and Isolde, Helen of Troy, Bless the Child, John Adams, The Holiday, Amazing Grace, The Illusionist, ShakespeaRe-Told The Taming of the Shrew, 9/11: Out of the Blue, Hamlet, Eleventh Hour, Middlemarch (mini).(some of them just RS's part, sorry.)
I like the charakters he completely release himself and forget who is he, not RS not actor not star, there is no good guy or bad guy, just a completely a charaker, sometimes I even forget his body his face his voice even forget he is RS...
I think my favour is The Taming of the Shrew and EH, it's totally different roles: different personality, different eyes contact, different posture, different gestures, even different voice, but come from one man! That's fascinating!
I do believe RS's acting skill would be perfect more and more, pick good scripts and good directors are great, but I think a suitable role fits RS's qualities is above all.

I love Rueful's list and I'd like to add:
Top Rufus character I'd like to marry: Giles Winterbourne (and I would even live in Little Hintock with him)

LOL! Both excellent additions, Uke and Lassie! Giles is especially handsome (love that stubble). Forgive me, I accidentally left one off my previous list : Top Rufus character to give an education to: Billy, from Gone to Seed. So young, so sure of himself, but so in need of guidance.

I was first alluuured by the voice (the character was Thomas clarkson), and on rewinding to listen again i thought yummers , then i was drawn in by the intensity of the acting, the eyes and that was it.....hhuuuuhhh My most endearing character = Charles II- for the way he dealt with all the scumbags and the virgin queen. Most fascinating character Petruchio- because....because, i never realized a man could look so darn good in fishnets ;D But I'm most of all attracted, allured and fascinated by the charming Mr sewell himself.

I'd never pass up a chance to rant and rave about Rufus, EVER!!!
First saw him in Gone to Seed (1993)...I was a goner...in a bad way...just couldn't believe that a man could be so stunningly beautiful.
Then Middlemarch...oh my....I had to pretend to then boyfriend that I had a thing for period dramas but little did he know I was lusting after Will...
Then I generally followed Rufus but didn't really keep up with everything...just every now and then would look in on his career to see what he was up to....you know, the usual...A Knights Tale, Zorro.
Then...The Taming of the Shrew came out...I was blown away with Rufus in this...I loved his acting and it is my favourite piece with him to date...stunningly beautiful as always and a very, very brilliant actor.
Now, Eleventh Hour, which I have only recently started to watch and I love him in this. He's quite eccentric isn't he? (I think he plays 'eccentric' brilliantly well) and very charismatic....and of course...SO handsome.
I recently watched him as Lord Marke (need I say more?) Let's just say I have him as my desktop on the computer so I can stare at him all day.
I would love some more suggestions as to what else to see (there must be loads) but my dream is to see him act some Shakespeare.....anyone know of anything I could watch? I'd love to see him perform live on stage.
Thank you for the opportunity to rant about Rufus...I feel much better now!!!
Love Elliexx
PS Oh wait...I forgot Charles 2...yes, that was brilliant, I particularly fancied him as the young Charles with the long hair (pre wig) but he was superb as the king and brought the character to life in a way that I could not have considered....very well done Rufus..a great part to play.

Ellie, I also have him as my desktop, although I keep changing the pictures.
You could try Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet although his part is small. Cold Comfort Farm and At Sachem Farm/Uncorked are cute little movies. He play's a cad in Holiday.
Have you seen Dark City? Just a few more Rufus gems.
