It is cold and snowy but surely its a beautiful sight from above. It's been colder and more snowy here in the US too. I don't know if we will ever get used to it. We had a snowfall a week before Christmas which dumped 21 inches. We usually only see about 10 inches cumulative all winter. I know I am ready for Spring already. Looks to be a long Winter though.
Just try to stay warm. Pitzel

Stay warm, GE2!! We haven't had that much snow here in southern KS but we sure have had the cold weather. There are wind chill warnings and advisories out for all of KS. It struggled up to about 15F here in Wichita. It should get warmer starting Sunday.

I'm trying! You wouldn't believe how many layers I'm having to wear - on top of post-Christmas flab = not a pretty sight! But, yes, Pitzel, what IS a pretty sight is that satellite pic. We're supposed to have Siberian winds from tomorrow, so the windchill will plummet. Some forecasters say we are due weeks of this, others say it gets milder from next weekend. It was rather surreal to go outside at lunchtime and think that zero C felt "mild" in comparison to the overnight temperatures! It'll be below freezing all through the weekend, apparently.

Craziest weather ever. Even Disney in Florida has a snow /sleet advisory for today. Not typical Florida winter at all. It's 22 degrees in North Fl.(home). Will be 16 tomorrow night and not go above freezing temps in the evening for 4 more days. Windchills below 0 degrees. I'm ready for Spring Break and the beach but may have to settle for the bathtub and some island music.
Hope everyone stays warm and doesn't get sick !

GE2, Just watched a video on Accuweather regarding winter weather in the UK right now. Brutal is all I can say! I hope you have a great source of heat and plenty of vitamin C. Hopefully the Siberian Blast has blasted for the last time this winter.

Thanks, evngrnreyes. Where I live, we usually avoid the worst of the winter weather, but not this year!
The main problem is that we just don't get this sort of weather often enough to justify the expense of having snow ploughs and stockpiling huge quantities of salt and grit all over the country - it's only Scotland and the mountains in Wales, where it snows every winter, that are really prepared.
Fair enough. What is inexcusable is that the local authorities don't seem to look at the weather forecasts and then leave it until the last moment to grit the roads, and often too late - plus, only the main roads are gritted. Side roads and pavements aren't. And the majority of the population (i.e. those paying for the local authorities), of course, live on side roads.
I keep reading that there is just ONE salt-mine providing stocks for the ENTIRE country, which doesn't help!
But.......everywhere looks beautiful, and some birds that don't usually venture into gardens are showing themselves, so there are some plusses!

I hate this snow, schools can't decide "shall I close shall I not". Last week I trekked through the icy roads (walked because I didn't feel confident to drive) kids fell over lots of time because pavement are like ice. Rang school before I left they said yes we are open!! Got there (took me an hour and a half) and they said "Oh we have just decided to close" Argghhh!!!!

Yes, I'm doing my best to stay warm, dry and safe, thank you! Errr......not sure I want to see pics of sunny, warm weather while I'm freezing my ***** off!! So, Mr Numbat, feel free to ignore her (as always?)! Just kidding! Can you send some of the warmth this way, too, please? Dippy, very brave of you to even attempt walking that far in those conditions. Please be VERY careful - I fell and badly broke my wrist while walking to work in that snowy spell last February, and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. These are a couple of the birds, not often seen in my part of the country, that have ventured into my garden this week (not my pics): Redwing: Fieldfare:

Oddly enough, I love the cold. But prefer Springtime the best. When I woke up this morning, the report on the news said that 90% of the U.S. was at freezing or below. I can't believe that picture, it's unbelievable to comprehend. As I write thisthe temp outside is currently twenty one degrees. So much for theories on global warming.
stay warm everyone.
