! Pillars had fantastic ratings in Germany! www.variety.com/article/VR1118027565The line about the US "auds giving it a pass" is unfair, because here it only appeared on Starz, which is one of the smaller paid subscription channels, with 12 million less subscribers than HBO. Hopefully the DVD sales and rentals will be good here though. But anyway, great news about Germany and Austria!

Thanks for posting that, Rueful - I can't read Variety articles any more, as it seems to have become a paysite for non-UK viewers. Great news about those audience figures! I found this comment earlier, from an interview with Natalia Woerner (Google translation): Q: your love scenes with colleague Rufus Sewell are quite liberal, cave wall, the cold does not hurt in the back?
Wörner: It's always interesting how other people see that. (Laughs) Since you are concerned that Ms. Woerner has hurt the back? I did not. But I have never played so many love scenes with a colleague, as with Rufus. It was such a running joke between us, when we looked at the shooting schedule: "What today is not a love scene? What is going on here, we have to invent one? ;D Original and translation(PS - Natalia's son is called Jacob

Thanks Rueful and GE2. I can't believe viewing figures weren't higher in the UK too. So many people have told me they saw "my man" in TPOTE.
I wonder if the above topic was under discussion on the red carpet. It might explain some of the expressions.

Thanks so much rueful and GE2!
I recently read that the TPOTE book is on the list of the most read books in Germany on the 3rd place after the bible and the lord of the rings - maybe that's one reason for the interest in the film?

Rueful, I so agree with you about TPOTE only appearing on Starz here in the US. It has many less subscribers than HBO because it is more expensive, well in our area anyway. We have it only because it was offered in a great deal here with Time Warner. "Pillars" was promoted very well in Germany as it should have been. Much of the funding came from the German government, which is really the German taxpayers. I think it was the Wednesday before it debuted here, Ken Follett was on Good Morning America. He was interviewed about TPOTE by the "third-in-line" anchor for no more than 5 minutes. Ian McShane and Donald Sutherland were both mentioned, but not Rufus. It seemed as though the segment was just thrown in at the last minute. I was very disappointed. Let's hope that, as you mentioned, the DVD sales will be very good here in the US. That will show the appreciation in the US for this type of well performed, class-act event on television.

It's very interesting for me to see that as TPOTE is shown in different countries, i get little spikes from those countries in people reading my Pillars stories while the series is being shown.
And the germans have been very enthusiastic. It's just a shame that no one else apart from me has written any, because everyone's stuck reading my drabble.
The rest of you should give it a go!!!

Good try Numbat...but you are my author of choice right now. Not much of a writer myself, I enjoy reading everyone elses. Maybe I am just lazy!

I wasn't aware that the Pillars have a special best-selling status in Germany I read that brick of a book at a time when I was supposed to be cramming for my final exams, but guess what I did instead for at least half the time instead ...
