Did anyone else in the UK watch this on Sunday night? It's a present day re-working, with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes, Martin Freeman as Watson and Rupert Graves as Insp. Lestrade.
I thought it was fantastic - fast-paced, funny and thoroughly entertaining. Like Zen, this had been made as 3 x 90 minute films, and the time just flew by. Already I hope they make more.
Anyone else enjoy it as much as I did?

I did GE2 - I was a bit sceptical being a Sherlock Holmes story but thought it was brilliant. It had shades of another of my favourites Lie to Me - the way he could read people. I watched a recording during my hubby evening on Sunday night I was busy thrashing hell out of my pc trying to get to see a certain Tom ! ;D

I liked the way the text messages were shown on screen - it certainly isn't a programme you could afford to look away from even for a second.
Glad you liked it, too, Nell. I've had no particular affection in the pastfor the Sherlock Holmes stories, and I'm sure if I was a purist I might not be so happy about it!

Hope you liked it, Tip. The second one wasn't as good (no Rupert Graves, either), unfortunately. One more to go.

I'm hoping the BBC only made three to see how good the audience figures are, with a view to maybe commissioning more later. (Just like a certain other 3 x 90 minute production currently being filmed.....!!!)

PBS Mystery keeps showing previews for this series, along with a second series of Wallander, but it's not anywhere on the schedule. Grrrr!

Well, the final part was back up the the quality of the first - but it moved so fast I'm going to have to watch it again. (I think this was originally intended to be the second in the trio) Best line: Rupert Graves as LeStade in this exchange: Watson: Fabulous! Holmes (correcting him): Meretricious. Lestade: And a Happy New Year to you! You'll enjoy it when you do get to see it, Rueful.

It sounds great, very promising. And PBS has finally announced the air dates for this and Wallander. Sundays Oct 3rd-17th for Wallander, and Oct 24th-Nov 7th for Sherlock. This give me additional hope that Zen will be shown next spring, because I thought they'd be showing Sherlock and Wallander then too, which would have pushed back the date for Zen. ('Cuz we Americans can't handle seeing more than one British mystery at a time, apparently.) ;D

Yaay! Good to hear Sherlock is going to be shown so soon! ('Cuz we Americans can't handle seeing more than one British mystery at a time, apparently.) ;D Oh yes. Didn't you know that, Rueful? Southern women in particular begin to get the "vapors" and must fan themselves vigorously if too many English accents come out of the television set at one time.

The even better news is that the BBC has just announced that it's been such a ratings hit, more episodes of Sherlock will be made.
Bodes well for Zen! ;D

I really enjoyed Sherlock my only critisism was that the episodes seemed just a bit too long. I think it could have been condensed into an hour a show, the last 2 anyway (I didn't notice it was 90 minutes in episode 1). Maybe I just watched it too late and was too tired. Great show though. There is another new detective series (2 x 60 minutes) also by Left Bank Pictures that I heard was due on our screens in spring 2011 - DCI Banks starring Stephen Tomkinson Here's the link for Left Bank Pictures www.leftbankpictures.co.uk/Also listed under television is Mad Dogs with Philip Glenister, John Simm, Max Beesley and Marc Warren - this might be promising too. They've got Zen listed under both television and film categories interestingly. It's listed as showing on BBC1 in the uk but no time indication yet. I still can't believe it'll be out by autumn.

And here I thought it was all those mint juleps making you woozy. The even better news is that the BBC has just announced that it's been such a ratings hit, more episodes of Sherlock will be made.
