Okay, eveyone tell me what you loved/hated about this film. As I've said elsewhere, "I just don't get it". So I need all of you to explain it to me so I can see it too. Use small words and speak very slowly.

I would like to hear (rather see) people's views on this film too........I just got it! I haven't seen it yet, obviously, but I love knowing some things to look for in a film. I had one fan tell me that she found it very boring, and another said she thought it was great! So this should be fun!

Me too! I just got it and haven't watched it yet. I'm rationing them - one a day.

This is one of my favorite Rufus films (his too). The way he portrays Robbie Fay as a tough bus driver who meets the boys at the pub to play snooker, but also is a true friend to his conductor (Albert Finney) - an eccentric fellow who may think as Robbie as a bit more than a pal.....I don't want to give too much away for those of you who haven't seen it. But it has some very funny moments and some very sad ones and if you watch it, you MUST stay with it until the very end. Trust me. Maybe the person who got bored with it was bored when Roof wasn't on screen.

I promised not to say anything so I'm not going to, but I can tell you that I wasn't bored. In fact I've watched it multiple times and I have yet to be bored.
Tell us more Rai. Tell us how the film affects you... Tell us your favorite scene and why it's your favorite. Anyone else jump in too. If you know why it's favorite of Rufus' tell us that as well, if you may.

I watched this tonight and had trouble figuring out exactly where it was going even though I did have a vague idea from watching the trailer. I'm not really accustomed to those accents so I probably missed more than I caught. I was kinda lost till about halfway thru then I just fell in love with Albert Finney's character. I really liked Ruf's last scene, ! and the ending of the movie. I'll have to watch it again tommorrow.

I think it's rather hard to find. When I was looking for Ruf movies last month I found a copy at the Canadian Amazon site but it was a previous rental, a VHS tape and pricey, so I tried the UK Amazon and they had it in DVD, new and cheap. It of course was PAL format and region 2 so I went and bought a new dvd that would play it. The US Amazon site has a VHS tape for $7.

I got mine from half.com for about $4 or $5, it's the VHS, not the DVD and it's Region 1.
Pattirose.......I am also about to purchase a new all-region DVD player, JUST to watch Region 2 films that I can't get here in the states! I told my hubby that it could be part of my Christmas and he said, "yeah, but if I don't get you more stuff to open on Christmas Day, you'll pout for a month" Ah..........after 28 years, he knows me so well!

It's more than worth it, I am so happy to be able to watch these dvds! God only knows when, if ever they will release Taming of the Shrew over here and I couldn't imagine Charles ll with an hour or 45 minutes cut out of it and I know they'll never rerelease it in the full version here.
I watched Man of No Importance again today and enjoyed it much more the second time around! It really is a touching movie - so sad in many ways and yet also uplifting at the same time.

It is a movie about fear and courage, truth and lies, friendship and love. It tugs at all your emotions. I've watched it a number of times and it has a great cast, quirky characters and a very sad but sweet storyline.

You mean my version of "The Last King" isn't the whole movie??? I'm missing an hour and 45 minutes??? Holy cramoli! I had no idea! Well that's another purchase I'll be making from the UK once I get my DVD player!!!! I think I'm taking AMoNI to the cabin with us next week and watching up there in the mountains. I'm sure it will be much better up there! I just hope I can get internet access so I can come ask questions if I ineed to!

The Last King is the USA version - the real version is called Charles II The Power and the Passion - the UK version which has about 60 minutes extra. The extra hour was worth the purchase of the Multi Region DVD player - I too have a Panasonic.

I love this film! I discovered it in my early Roof days, but every time I see it I appreciate it more and more. Rufus worked hard on his Dublin accent before reading for the part of Robbie - he really wanted to do it. I find his interpretation of the macho lad Robbie to be so heart-warming - my favorite scene is the snooker lesson. Finney is brilliant as the everyman bus driver who admires Oscar Wilde for many reasons, and who is hopeless smitten with young Robbie. Brenda Fricker, Patrick Malahide, Michael Gambon, Tara Fitzgerald, and David Kelly round out the wonderful cast. The final scene is beautiful!
This is a must see for everyone here, IMHO.
