I found some hilarious scene: when Mr.Tang was singing or when the cook brings "tofu in the shape of a ham", Rufus face was great, too funny! I love this scene where Ross is trying to explain to the cook he wants REAL ham by picking it out of his teeth. It makes me laugh every time. And I agree about Mr. Tang, but he's just funny everywhere. I think I need to watch this picture this weekend.

This film is my antidote to a s****y day - it never fails to lift my spirits.
(I really love the song over the opening credits, too - I bought the soundtrack but that's not on it, rats! If anyone knows where I can download that song, please let me know)

I went to the video store today to rent T&I and found this movie in the comedy section and decided to grab it. I absolutely love this movie! I had to rewind it a few times because I missed some lines because I was laughing so hard! The look on Ross' face when Mr. Tang first starts playing the guitar is priceless! You can practically here him thinking, "What the hell is going on here? Is this a joke?" Then when he's desperately trying to surpress his laughter, I had tears rolling down my cheeks! The scene on the pillar when he's planning on killing his uncle gave me chills. The frightening, almost psychotic look on his face dissolves back into the gentle, now guilt stricken visage of Ross. Rufus conveys so much in that scene without saying a word; it's a true acting masterpiece.
I thought Rufus looked, dare I say, just adorable in this role, particularly when he's wearing the glasses. I especially like the scenes where's he fidgeting on the couch, at one point chewing on the lapel of his sweater. He had a very boyish quality about him throughout, sometimes seeming on the edge of throwing a temper tantrum out of his frustration that no one seemed to believe in him.
The rest of the cast was great too; Ruf and Minnie Driver make a wonderful pairing and Nigel Hawthorne perfectly played Uncle Cullen's wisdom masked by eccentricities. I think this is also a film that most people can relate to; everyone has at least one family member that you hold your breath and pray they won't do and/or say something embarrassing anytime they're around company. While Ross' uncle was a bit extreme, it's still relatable. I'm definitely adding this one to my "to buy" list of movies!

I wasn't that fond of it either Tip.
I went into it expecting a lighthearted romantic comedy and came out of it wondering what I just watched. I admit I like Ru in this...but the direction just seemed to fall flat. It dragged on far too long IMO and Minnie Driver wasn't allowed to be as snarky as I have seen her be. I like Nigel, but I think his character was a bit longwinded, lost my interest about half way through. And the diver? Yeah that whole part kind of irked me. The guy busted his ankle and then spent the remaining years moping about it? Seriously...get healed, get over it, he wasn't that good anyway. *I used to do competitive diving, so every time he dove I was critiquing him...*
Overall, a good idea and there were the occasional really good parts, but wasn't one of my faves.

I'm with ambra. This was the first film I saw after the serious rufus infection started, so I probably hadn't built up any immunity at all, and thus love it wholeheartedly. First, I am a sucker for stories with happy endings. Second, like ambra, I laughed so hard during the Mr Tang guitar-playing scene that I cried. I don't know how the other cast members kept (relatively) straight faces. I almost never laugh out loud like that at a movie, but Mr Tang's deadpan expressions throughout the movie, as he did or said the most absurd things, were hilarious. Third, Ross/Rufus was utterly charming. Not just the character, who was so self-unaware but trying so hard to be the grownup in the family, but also Rufus and the earnestness he brought to the character. Fourth, I had affection for all the other characters. I loved Uncle Cullen, and would like to have one of my own, although in actual practice his interfering ways would probably annoy me. (I'll contradict myself a bit by agreeing with dirtygirldiva that the diver was a little weird. His neurosis didn't bother me so much, but I failed to detect any of the hypnotic magnetism that Kendal [Minnie Driver]saw.) Finally, although most movie storylines are pretty predictable, I was able to watch this without really knowing where it was going. It just sort of unfolded, in ways that ultimately made sense but that I didn't anticipate. The only criticism I would have were the long music video/montage scenes, which I almost always think go on too long in any movie/tv show. But they weren't enough to ruin it for me (especially because of the handy FF button). tipou, I'd never say you're a heartless bully, at least not to your face, in case you might beat me up JK! Everyone has different tastes.

can you believe the same guy played ross, and the godawful agamemnon.
and i would beat you with my unbelieveable uppercut, feared by all.
no, what i mean is: i am usually a sucker for this kind of movie, plus, there is rufus in it (looking adorable too), plus, there is sarah mclaughlan singing in it, i should be in heaven...
i dont get it. i mean, i was already laughing at the tofu ham... so what the hell is the problem with me? was it minnie driver? the extra long song mtv treatments? what?...

No, I can't believe it's the same guy, which is why he is so utterly amazing. We can (and do) lust after him all day, but I don't think he'd hold my interest for long if he weren't so talented.
Try it again sometime in the distant future, then, and maybe it will worm its way into your heart.
If you come after me with your uppercut, I'll ask Rufus to protect me with his sword.

Hmmm. Maybe I should rethink my strategy. I don't want to be behind him when he brings out his sword.

I had seen Roof before in a few things noticed him but not really in a good way. I even debated many times whether to watch it or not and I ended up doing it just cause I love Minnie so much. After watching I was what you could call smitten and then made it a point of searching out other things. So it will always be one of my fave roof movies and have a special place in my heart.
