Poor Rufus! This news makes me sick! The guy does great work on a tv series, great fan support, good ratings, and it is unfairly cancelled. Sounds and feels terribly familiar! I think Rufus really enjoyed doing Zen. The plus side (that EH did not have) is that the producer Andy Harris may be very instrumental in finding Zen a new home. I would love for it to be a weekly series.
Do we have any e mail adresses? I may have some old ones at PH. May be quicker to send for those of us out of the UK. But I can do snailmail.

This is terrible!! I really really hope another channel will pick it up... Maybe Channel 4 or ITV? It seems like the sort of drama they'd show. Even if it doesn't become a weekly series and is still done in long 3 part chunks, that would be fantastic. Just as long as it's not axed completely! I'm extra glad I bought the dvd now, hopefully sales are also good so that companies can see its popularity.
If more 'blue-collar' dramas mean more things like Eastenders, or the BBC equivalent of Jeremy Kyle, Danny Cohen hopefully won't last too long, and can be replaced by someone with sense (even though he apparently did commission a couple of shows I like)!

Bloody hell, as if Feb 22 wasn't bad enough with that terrible earthquake in Christchurch. Now this. I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said. I just don't understand why Rufus can't get a break. He has talent, fan appeal, good humour, flexibility, intelligence. Zen was well received by critics and the public and had good ratings. What more do they want? I hope he's able to channel his anger into helping with the effort to get the show picked up by another network. We're all gutted - i can't even imagine how he must be feeling right now. The RoofTop needs to send him a giant cyberhug........

My letter to the BBC:
Darling fascist bullyboys,
Put Zen back on the air now, you b*st*rds!
Boom Shanka (May the seed of your loins be fruitful in the belly of your woman)
Love,
Rumantic
(I really really hope that there is someone here who watched The Young Ones in the 80s and remembers this......I remember it even all these years later, but I might have misspelled the 'Boom Shanka' bit...)

WHAT ? is there a concensus worldwide to get tv as stupid as it can get? if i want blue collar, i just have to sit on my balcony any given night. lets hope our cbc will not catch this "lower common denominator" bug. ahhhhh but i forgot, they have! they now show wheel of fortune every night!!! why cant tiv execs see that is what created the subscription-only networks? at some point, you prefer to pay rather than see than chew on the bland sh**t that they are forcing on us.

Apparently the BBC doesn't even want to hear viewers' complaints about it, because the discussion thread Dippy mentioned on the previous page of this thread has now been closed by the moderators. Rumantic, I don't know The Young Ones, but I certainly like the tone of your letter. Hits just the right note. Numbat, you're right, he must feel terrible. So here's my part of The Rooftop cyberhug for Rufus {{{{{{{{{{RUFUS}}}}}}}}}}

It was actually really funny...I just don't want anyone to think I'm (more) nuts (than I actually am). This isn't a funny situation, but it's all I could think of when the subject of a letter writing campaign came up.

I guess the UK is following the example of the producers in the US. Soon TV erverywhere will be rubbish. I donot know how many NCIS AND CSIS I can stand. I am very sorry about Zen. I am even sorrier for Rufus Sewell. It seems he is snake bit.
Some how I think he knew that Zen was axed and maybe that is why he was outside ITV. If the producers are sincerely in talks with other networks, they already knew Zen was not going to be renewed. And it makes me wonder if the real reason Sherlock did not get extra episodes is because the producer is "stretched thin" or because it was not blue collar enough.

It can not understand why BBC does something like that, but we think even positive. If LeftPictures could make another contract with an other TVstation, eg ITV, then it could perhaps be possible that ZEN may be continue, but .... I try only to think positve.

I slept badly tonight - that was probably in part due to the bad Zen news. I kept composing a very angry letter to the BBC in my mind. It's a shame that they closed the discussion! They can't take a great series away from the public that loved it and then even forbid them to discuss their stupid decision I just don't understand why Rufus can't get a break. He has talent, fan appeal, good humour, flexibility, intelligence. Zen was well received by critics and the public and had good ratings. What more do they want? I don't know, almost looks like he's cursed or something. This guy has been doing one fabulous job after the other for two decades and never seems to get full credit Amen to that ... rueful: I have posted the Guardian article on the "Zen Casebook" group on Facebook - folks there were as angry as we are! I do hope that Andy Harries and his team will manage to find Zen a new home. It really would be a shame if the series was discontinued altogether.

Whaaaat?!?!? No, no, no! Stands the B in the BBC for Brain damaged?
I hope that ZEN will be picked up and that it will be a huge succes. I don't get it, why does it have to be an instant succes to be "rewarded" with a second season?
And Larkrise to Candleford is axed too? :''( loved that.

I loved the young ones (even though I wasn't supossed to watch it and I had to sneak inot my brothers bedroom to watch it.) That was good tv, in those days they wouldn't have cancelled Zen. Does anyone know any curses that we can send the BBC.
