Amen Meg! The curls! Ever notice how people mention Jasper in The Holiday or AKT when they mention Rufus in a blog or tweet. Even the recent one at the gym. I guess its because these are the higher profile things hes done that people will remember him from. I guess I do the samething when I am talking about him to people who are not familar with his work.

Oh yes! I'm the exact same way. AKT is always the first one I go for (especially for people my age), mostly because that was the very first thing I ever saw him in and would most likely be the very first thing most of my friends have seen him in too. Funnily enough I always forget to mention The Holiday. I throw in TPOTE if neither AKT or TH ring a bell (only because it's --excepting Zen--his more recent big hit). I've been trying to namedrop Zen on occasion but it's very rare that anyone my age watches anything to do with PBS unless it's starring an uber-star, unfortunately.

I like The Holiday as a whole, but I wish Rufus and Judes roles were reversed. Rufus did a great job as Jasper. I really didnt think he was so bad. I kind of blamed her (and I would since its RS) for letting some guy jerk her around. Rufus mentioned some of the Jasper parts were editied out. I only tuned in at the beginning and the other part he comes in at yesterday.

I agree completely, kygal. To be honest, I've sort of always zoned-out when it comes to the Cameron-Jude part; but this time I decided to remain attentive throughout, and I now too wish they had switched the roles around. Can you imagine Rufus acting alongside those adorable little girls? I'm not a huge fan of Jude (nor Cameron, really), but I love how sweet Jude is with those girls (which I'm sure came quite easy for him, being a father himself, and I'm sure it would've come easy to Rufus too). Does anyone know if he tried to audition for the Jack Black or Jude roles? I know they were specifically written for those actors, but was there ever (or is there ever) a sort of just-in-case audition, or was he happy to play Jasper? On a side note, I wish some of those deleted Jasper scenes were added to the DVD

Was it this film in which someone observed that "Rufus Sewell looks like Jude Law. That is, if Jude Law were a man instead of a pretty girl"? ;D
I couldn't help imagining him in the JL role throughout the whole thing. And yes, I wish they hadn't cut the Jasper role so much.

From some of his interviews I got the impression that Rufus took the role in The Holiday at the urging of his agent - who saw it as good exposure for Rufus to be in a big budget Hollywood film. Agree that Rufus should have had the Jude Law part. If for no other reason than Jude Law looked very, very, odd in tht picture. Sort of orangey-tan??

Was it this film in which someone observed that "Rufus Sewell looks like Jude Law. That is, if Jude Law were a man instead of a pretty girl"? ;D LOL! Love it! The only upside I can think of to having Rufus play Jasper instead of whatever-Jude's-character-is-named-I-always-FF-thru-those-scenes, is that he gets to act with Kate Winslet instead of Cameron Diaz, who I thought was godawful in this film. The whole film, I felt like I could see her "acting" or at least thinking about acting. "Oh, here is the part where I have to act tough on the outside, vulnerable on the inside." "Ok, now I have to look like I'm totally charmed by these adorable moppets." She was so unnatural.

Hello Well I sat through the Holiday ....ARGH! It was difficult... not just because I started sobbing like a fiend whenever Kate Winslet started talking about love and not just because Cameron Dias was in far too much of the film (I am sorry Ms. Dias, you're probably a lovely person, but to me - you always play every part in the same way - tan and mildly bored) or the plastic terror of Jude Law ... or the slightly larger plastic terror of Jack Black ...or Mr De Franco sulking even in the silly faux trailers... but it was such a wretchedly weak film! Even Eli Wallach as the charming but elderly screenwriter, seemed poorly conceived and trite. Kate was the only 'real' person in the film, someone whom I could well imagine doing real every day things. Jude as her brother, the sorrowful widower who randomly sleeps with all the women he meets, was a classic, De Franco worthy wooden performance - maybe his wife died from him draining all his energy from her. The final scene in the cottage with the two new couples was dreadful and had I seen this in a cinema I may have begun booing at that point. How could Cameron's character afford that sort of house in LA if she was someone who edits movie trailers? Did she sell heroin on the side?
When silly distractions such as how could character x afford to get item y get in the way of a story - even one as thin and brittle as this one - you know something is wrong.
Kate was great, Rufus was a borderline sociopath and generally this film was a profound disappointment even for Hollywood fluff this was awful. Although I have been inspired to compose a wee bit of FF regarding it.
