Thanks for posting GE2. I got the interview by Luaine Lee in my Google alerts but it seemed a bit mixed up with an interview for someone else - bizarre! Maybe it was this other interviewee that had the hazel eyes I can just imagine his response to the over used unimaginative phrases like "he says in his slightly breathy British tone." "he says seated in a deserted bar in the late afternoon, the sun spilling a slanted shaft on the flowered carpet.""he says, his hazel eyes pinpointed by the sunlight."I loved hearing what Rufus had to say though! and I agree I could hear him saying every word - just in his gorgeous husky voice. Not the" breathy British tone". Bad phone line love! ;D and the title: In 'Zen,' Rufus Sewell exploits his dark, brooding side as seducer and sleuthI have to disagree. I don't think he was at all dark and brooding. He didn't use his looks - he acted. Can we safetly say it was another telephone interview then? ;D I'm pleased he's getting the coverage though. Just wish it was one of us (me actually) doing the interview .

Can we safetly say it was another telephone interview then? ;D Absolutely - but face to face, not on the phone, and then come up with some really good descriptions of our man

For all we know, he IS inundated with offers, Robela - just not the ones he wants! You may be right GE2, although he was out of work for quite a few months before he took ALVH and in this interview he did intimate that there was some good work he had missed out on? Doesn't really add up to me! I am positively thinking he will get some more good work soon and am also can I say slightly encouraged by the comments by Andy Harries in the NYT article that he hasn't given up that Zen will be resurrected! Thanks for the last link: PBS selling Zen on Masterpiece! Hope you don't mind I have posted on FB.

Great interview. Noticed on a you-tube interview for Zen he had the same frustrations. He mentioned if Zen was a film, he would not have the part. Really wish that would change for him. He deserves the roles he wants. He also mentioned that his best offers are for tv and theater. Would have to agree. Would love for him to nab a role that would propel him where he wants to go.
That said, his frustration always seems to come out about roles in interviews. Always makes me feel a little bit sorry for him. Looking back over the last 5-6 years he seems to have had steady and quality work. I think so...maybe he doesnt.

Thanks, wichiwoman, The first article is new, but the second link we've seen. I can't open the video, but anyone in the US should be able to. The video is part of the DVD extra material, we have already on FB the beginning of it. We will have the rest in a couple of days, or more, when I get the chance to do it. And, BTW, there is always hope to have more Zen, once those smart production people figure it out how to do that. until that moment, patience!

Great to read all the positive articles. It does bother me that they have new shows in the works to appeal to the Wallander and Zen type audience (like the one with the Harry Potter guy), when they let a good one go.

And another: For actors who must travel for work, considerable energy consumption is a fact of life. "One of the things I feel most guilty about is the amount of flying I have to do," admits British actor Rufus Sewell, whose latest project, the PBS "Masterpiece Mystery!" three-part series "Zen," is set in and was shot in Rome. So in an effort to counterbalance, "I recycle religiously, and I walk a lot in London and Los Angeles and I drive a Prius," he says. Sewell, best known for such period fare as "Pillars of the Earth," "A Knight's Tale," "Helen of Troy," "Dangerous Beauty" and "John Adams," is in contemporary mode as the title character in "Zen," an Armani-clad Italian policeman who's living with his mother since his marriage broke up, and having a secret affair with a married co-worker (Caterina Murino). "He's got great suits but underneath he's not too slick," says Sewell. "He's always in a bad situation, always one step behind. He's perfectly capable of being slippery and underhanded but on his own terms. He's just trying to get through the day. He certainly has a moral code. He certainly is very good at his job. But there are so many different things he has to negotiate. He's regarded as being incredibly good at his job, but because he never makes the right political decision when it counts he's back on a desk job." In the July 17 premiere, "Vendetta," Aurelio Zen endeavors to solve one murder while trying to escape a vengeance-seeking psychopath intent on taking revenge on those who wrongly imprisoned him (Zen was briefly an investigator on the case). For Sewell, working in Rome "was a real treat," although "we were working ridiculous hours so I didn't see a lot of it." He'd welcome revisiting the character and notes the "potential for many more" episodes, as there are 11 books in the series by Michael Dibdin from which to draw. Meanwhile, Sewell will head to the big screen in the cast of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," set for release next June

I just read that "green" article and wondered about this statement ... " ...and I drive a Prius". That little red convertible must be his "fun" car that gets taken out occasionally, when Roof has the urge to look like a movie star.

I won't post all of this one, but I did like this section of it: Known for historical roles of one sort or another, Sewell found playing a modern European a nice change of pace.
"Normally," he says, "all I'm required to do is sit on a horse and look annoyed, so it's more than usual." While Zen does wear nice suits and drive an Alfa Romeo -- and lives with his mother -- Sewell didn't want him to be a "mammoni," one of a growing trend of single Italian men who live with their mothers while enjoying a posh bachelor life.
"The Alfa Romeo is not a sports car," Sewell says. "It's a little hatchback. It was very important that he didn't have something like … a midlife-crisis kind of car.
"It was really, really important to me that he wasn't a man in a Porsche at a stoplight. That's not who I'm playing. I was very involved in the choice of the car. It's an Alfa Romeo, with a bash in the side, paper cups, little bit of a mess. He's had it for a while. He's not someone with a flash car. That's very important.
"If you're going to get out of the car wearing a suit, that's already something. To undercut that, you've got to have a slightly bashed hatchback car and not a Porsche. If I was watching, (the Porsche) would be the moment where I go, 'Oh, f... off,' and change the channel." And especially this: After a career in which he was more likely to wield a sword than a pistol, Sewell was happy to be armed, even if, in the first hour, Zen puts his own mother in temporary peril.
"I've been starved of a gun in my career," he says. "It's a thrill -- not to almost shoot my mother -- but to have a gunfight, and to have a holster after all this time. It was quite exciting.
"There was not as much as I'd have liked, not a lot of gunplay, but who knows? There could be a future turn." www.zap2it.com/news/zap-masterpiece-zen-story,0,4987847.story That's it, Rufus, positive thinking - very...er.....zen!

Thank you judy, the video is great. If you search the site with Rufus' name you'll find another six or so videos where he talks about Zen. I think those videos are new, or at least I haven't seen them anywhere before. We posted what we could on our FB page for our friends there to see. Thanks again for finding and posting the link.
