I know I'm a rare guest these days, but believe me I'm lurking ;D Thanks for sharing all the beautiful pics, just wanted to share some of my two last hiking trips in the swiss alps. We actually wanted to hike to the lake you can see in the pic above but were running out of time (after we had already crawled up a mountain). So we made another effort the following week from another point and walked along 4 mountain lakes - 2 of them you see in the following pictures. This two pics above are from the second lake - the path to the 3rd lake was sometimes a bit - well see yourself The 3rd lake was really lovely. Of course we had to crawl up another mountain in the end but it was a fantastic day - hope you enjoy the pics.

Fabulous pics, Zenina - especially the last one. That mountain pathway is scary!
(I stayed at a beautiful place called Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies a few years ago - after the snow had melted following a heavy overnight fall, we hiked up one of the trails, not realising until slipping and sliding back down later that there was a virtual sheer drop into the lake only about a foot off the pathway, a couple of hundred feet up. Yikes!)

My day out at Poole and Brownsea Island on 28 September doesn't compare with Zenina's hiking trip pics, but I thought you might want to see them anyway: Poole Harbour has a very narrow entrance, and just past that and into Poole Bay is this little beach, on the right - I can't find an official name for it, but as it's at Shell Bay I suppose it must be Shell Beach! I was shooting into the sun on this one and couldn't see the monitor, plus it was hazy, so I'm quite pleased it came out as well as it did. That's Old Harry Rocks with Ballard Down above. At the far left is Swanage Bay, where I was the previous Wednesday. My second boat trip of the day was to Brownsea Island, a National Trust nature reserve in Poole Harbour. Much of it is woodland, but the south side of the island has stunning views from the cliffs - that's the view to the harbour entrance with Poole Bay beyond. Shell Bay is top right. And another view from further along the cliff - you can see here how narrow the harbour entrance is. Some of the interior of Brownsea is landscaped, and there's a pretty little church there. And peacocks everywhere! Many were just flopped on the ground, it was so warm that day. You can see the trees are just starting to change colour. The peacocks allow people to get up really close - unortunately for me, they lose their magnificent tail feathers early in September, once the breeding season is over. In fact, I saw very little wildlife there, it was so warm - but this jackdaw kindly posed for me as i was waiting for the boat back to the mainland. The main reason for visiting Brownsea was to see the red squirrels, which are an endangered species in the UK, having been wiped out by the introduced greys which carry a virus fatal to the reds. I went on a guided walk to find them and spent most of my visit deep in the woods looking for them. Saw loads, up in the tree canopy and on the ground, but they are half the size of the greys and move fast those, critters! So here is my only shot: Yes! That blurry reddy-brown thing in the centre is a red squirrel! I'll get a better pic next time......
