Those are all excellent points. He was going to be pretty digitized, anyway, I think. Maybe now he'll have time to do a play. In Chicago. Where we have an excellent variety of world-class sandwiches.

And think - since he won't be in Australia filming this summer, he'll be available for ALVH premieres. YAYYYYY!!!!

To be ruthlessly honest ... I'm kind of glad that this film has gotten canned. The more I read about it and the line-up of cast (other than Rufus, of course), made me think it would be a very expensive box office bomb. Just my opinion. I AM glad, though ... as pointed out above ... that he is like to be free for ALVH premieres this summer! (I think ALVH is going to be a massive hit, BTW.)

My feelings exactly. I was excited about this one, but after reading all your posts, I have to admit you all are absolutely right. I was beginning to wonder how digitized Rufus' already flawless face would be, and then I began to wonder why it was going to be filmed in this style in the first place. I'm sure CGI alone would've been enough with the actors. I think my disappointment is mainly just that it's a magnificent story with flawless writing and the idea of Rufus being a part of something like that blew my mind when it was announced. I'll really be happy to find out if any other work pops up for him though, now that he has some more free time. I agree with Rueful. He's should definitely do a play in Chicago. Then travel down to Hilton Head on his days off. Please. Please come to the Island, Rufus. You know you want to ;D or, you know, you could come to Savannah too. Or Charleston. Wherever. I don't mind ;D

(I think ALVH is going to be a massive hit, BTW.) My feelings exactly. You know I was iffy about the project at first, but from what I've seen and read about it so far, I think it's quite promising, and different from the usual vampire cr*p. Oh, and Rufus, we have some nice foreign-language theatres in Germany. The food isn't bad here either ...

Oh well maybe it's an omen for what will come...something much much better. I'm with Judy, I reckon that ALVS is gonna be a big winner. If Rufus attends the premiers, that's even better. Hopefully with this film being more mainstream Rufus will get more of the recognition that he so rightly deserves. With that more roles will come on the back of this film. I do hope though that the powers that be, look back over some of his back catalogue and realise that he's not just a good 'baddie' , but just a good all round craftsman of his art. Let this wonderful actor diversify and he'll show you just how good he can be. And on a good note for me personally That's one less book I have to read!! Anyone wanna buy a (new - unopened) copy of PL?? ;D

Well, I agree with that big crying smiley. This is a sad news. I like Dark City very very much. Judy posted a great article a few weeks ago - "Alex Proyas is very gifted in expressing his visions." I think Paradise Lost would have been a magnificent material for his fantasy. I have listened to a dramatised version of it on the radio - I did that because of Ian McDiarmid, I mean because of Hyde - and it scared the pants off me, it was soooo impressive and they used only voices!!! Plus Proyas with his talent for visualizing... From that article again: "Proyas mentions his fascination with water, how he loves shooting water. (…) One day during filming, the production team had wet down a street to make it look more visually appealing. William Hurt was confused why, if the Strangers had a fear of water, would the streets be wet all the time. “And my response to that, of course, was, ‘Well, because it looks cool,’ which I don’t think was a great answer.” Yes, I also remember a complaining sentence from a Rufus interview - it was something like Rufus felt himself rather alone with the acting matters because Proyas cared more for the technical things. Well, Dark City turned out wonderfully. Paradise Lost won't.

No more Paradise Lost - that is a pity, though I wasn't so sure about the digitalisation anyway (I like Rufus more 'natural' ). I wonder what he'll do with the spare time this must give him...

Well, I agree with that big crying smiley. This is a sad news. I like Dark City very very much. Judy posted a great article a few weeks ago - "Alex Proyas is very gifted in expressing his visions." I'm sorry to hear that Rufus isn't getting to do a project that most likely he's been preparing for and looking forward to. I also like Dark City. I haven't seen Proyas's other films to make comparisons, that is, to say whether I always like his directing choices. If, as Rufus said, Proyas left acting matters alone, then Proyas was lucky to have a pretty solid cast to help his vision along in DC. But Paradise Lost is wonderful material, and the actors that had been cast alongside Rufus (the ones I knew, anyway) seem to be good actors. It probably would have been interesting, even if I personally don't care much for that digitized kind of CGI placed on top of actors' faces/bodies. If Proyas has enough of the production mapped out, it's possible it will get a new financial backer in the future (although the actors involved might change I guess). But, if Rufus is not going to do PL this summer, then he might as well do some theater.... Oh, and Rufus, we have some nice foreign-language theatres in Germany. The food isn't bad here either ... I can second this, Kate! A recent production of Munich's BeMe Theatre was reported to be sold out in Hague - doesn't that sound promising? ;D Hands off, ladies! I offered Chicago first! ;D (And Meg, a couple of weekends in SC would be all right, but only after he'd thoroughly toured Chicago with the help of an able local guide.)

The more I read about it and the line-up of cast (other than Rufus, of course), made me think it would be a very expensive box office bomb. I very much had my doubts about this too. Firstly because Milton wrote a masterpiece in words meant to be read or recited. 2nd..Film creations of anything with a Biblical theme( with one or two exceptions) tend to Bomb. and 3rd when things cost as much as this was going to, the suits tend to dumb down . So while I am sorry that there will be no work for Rufus ,I think I feel a little relieved that he will not be in what I think would have been a massive turkey.

Awww, that's too bad! I was kind of curious to see what they'd do with it.
I agree with what everybody's saying, though; it probably would have tanked.

comicbook.com/2015/02/22/first-look-demon-concept-art-from-alex-proyas-never-made-paradis/"Conceptual illustrator Dane Hallett ("The Wolverine") has uploaded concept art he created for Paradise Lost." I wouldn't post this article, if Samael wasn't in it. But if I understand it well, then this picture is Samael: So...this is Lucifer's buddy Samael...not played by Rufus. P.S. "Proyas is currently in post-production on Gods of Egypt, another historical tale that combines fantasy with fact. We can expect that film to hit next February."Oh, I hope Urshu is a handsome guy! Unless Proyas combines too much fantasy with fact. He still has one year...hands off of Rufus's face!
