I don't want a repeat of what happened to Minx to happen to Uke over here. Can we know what kind of photos we are allowed to post or how we can show an interview, etc? I just don't want to share anything that might get anyone in trouble! If we know what NOT to do, then we'll all make sure to keep the bad guys (a**h***s) away!
Thanks!

I don't know, I haven't thought about how to approach this issue yet. Shall we go for caution or reckless abandon?

OK - I am not a lawyer but, for my sins, I have professional dealings with the NLA (newspaper licencing authority) CLA (who do the same thing for magazines and periodicals) and News International (who publish The Times, The Sun etc and don't subscribe to the NLA so do their own policing).
So I can tell you the legal situation in the UK - you'd have to check it out in the USA.
In the UK, it is entirely legal to post a link on your website to an article on someone else's website. It is *illegal* to cut and paste all or part of the article itself. You can summarise it in your own words - but if you use some or all of the publication's words, you are infringing their copyright.
Photos are a minefield. The copyright is sometimes held by the photographer, sometimes by the agency s/he worked for/sold them to (like Getty etc) and sometimes by the publication they appeared in. But in almost all cases, any photo you see anywhere will be owned by someone else and by posting it on your website you are infringing the owner's copyright - unless you have purchased a temporary licence to reproduce it (and you have to declare where - potential audience numbers dictate the purchase price). So the safest bet is to post a link to photos that are already on the internet.
Take today - there is a picture story in today's Daily Mail (Rufus and Alice) but it is not on the Daily Mail website. If I scanned and posted the picture here, I could get sued. Ditto if I typed the words of the article into a post. But if it had been on the website, I could have posted the link for you all to look at.
I hope this helps.
IMHO I think we should play safe. Whoever was playing mean b$st£$ds with Minx will no doubt drop in here to spy. And as someone else observed, while the pictures and articles posted on EMS were great, it's the messaging, chat and general collective madness in our obsession that I most enjoy.
We'll be able to share most things via posted links and if someone is desperate for more, they can take it off-site to private email, when the risk is entirely personal and not putting the board in a vulnerable position.
What does everyone else think?

I agree--the pictures and interviews were great, but I'd rather just hang out here and chat with others about Rufus instead. I learned about quite a few of his projects through the other board, and I was happy to go hunting for DVDs once I knew what to look for . Besides--I think it's easier to chat with people who live halfway around the world. Would you believe that friends who live less than 30 minutes away from me will only communicate by email?! Looking forward to hearing from you all! Pen

I agree with the others, why tempt fate? The best part of the site is the ability to chat with other Roof fans, and the photos/interviews were just the icing on the cake for me.
For what it's worth, and I'm certainly no attorney, I think the law is the same in the US as in the UK regarding copywrite laws, i.e., you can provide a link, just not the story/photo in its entirety.
I think it's great we were able to get back online so quickly - don't let the a***h****s ruin our Roof fun!

Take today - there is a picture story in today's Daily Mail (Rufus and Alice) but it is not on the Daily Mail website. so, of course, against all my principles i had to go back out this evening, to the local shop, and look through the daily mail (well i certainly wouldn't BUY that paper!...) to see this story. i guess perhaps if we can't post everything up here, at least it'll keep me fit running off to check things out! i also think we should play it safe - uke, you don't want to end up in the s**t do you? however, didn't we all sign a legal disclaimer thing to join this site? if i remember rightly, didn't it say that individual members, not the site itself, were responsible for each post? in which case, it'd be up to each of us to decide for ourselves what risks we wanted to take - uke, help me out here cos i may not be remembering the disclaimer stuff correctly. it is a shame if we can 't share pics and stuff. though i agree, the chat is the most precious thing.

Shall we go for caution or reckless abandon? Oh, I'm so tempted to say reckless abandon, but I don't think my heart will take it if we crash and burn again. So, yeah, let's play safe. I do agree that the chat and the exchange of news and views is what is important, and as long as we can post links to articles and photos, we won't be losing out at all. Let's forget about Black Tuesday (drama queen, me? ), and continue the spirit of EMS over here. We are still allowed to be a bit risque at times, aren't we? I notice some unintended asterisks are appearing in certain words.... GE2

Ok, I just wanted to be clear so I didn't do anything that might be construed as a problem. Like you, GE2, it's tempting to say "the hell with it, let's have fun with it all" but as I said in the first post here.......I don't want Uke getting into any trouble. I think the disclaimer does say that each poster is responsible for what she/he posts, but that doesn't mean that someone with evil in their mind can't start problems for the owner of this place! So links it is!
I have seen two articles today on the "love" of Rufus and Eve........funny how that is such big news! But at least it's something about our guy!

So basically if we want to show anything, we just have to link it rather than posting it. Sounds simple to me:P

About the disclaimer we all signed... I would guess that it provides some protection for Uke but that Proboards would still expect her, as the person who set up/administers the site to ensure that any illegal posts are taken down i.e. ones that don't comply with Proboards' own rules and regulations and/or the law of the jurisdiction (USA/UK etc) in which they are registered as a company.
I think it's crap, too - and would love to throw caution to the winds - but unfortunately it's enforcible legal crap.
A daily Google (news and blogs sections) for "Rufus Sewell" brings up most of the latest news. Then we can post links or PM about the rest, yes?

Help. I'm not very with computers!! Please could anyone tell me in simple terms how you would link from one site to another. Ta Left click in the address bar, to highlight the address of the site you want to link to. Then go into the edit menu, click Copy. Then come onto this board, go to whichever thread is relevant, go back into the edit menu and click Paste, et voila!
