Hello everyone--
So glad to have found a home here in Rufdom with other sufferers of that mysterious virus... ;D
I am a raging Colin Firth fan...he was the one who pulled me kicking and screaming (but not too loudly) into thoroughly undignified middle-aged fangirl behavior in 2004 (never cared about the movies or any particular actors before then) and it's been so gratifying to see him progress to his Oscar status now.
But Rufus...now there's a handsome kettle of fish whom I've always kinda had this little rush about when I saw him on screen. Just a tasty morsel here and there...and had the impression that he might be a kind of cruel and haughty person in real life. I loved Dangerous Beauty and Middlemarch, and admired his perfromance in Amazing Grace. Had another little delicious rush during The Tourist.
Then the perfect storm hit: PBS Masterpiece/BBC production (I am a lunatic about any British TV) + Rome (I am a frequent traveler to Italy and adore the place) + mystery that you really had to wrap your head around + Rufus + the suits + serious + funny + romance... It was OVER THE TOP for me, I tell ya...!
Then I looked into his other stuff... Lord Marc in Tristan and Isolde... OH.EM.GEE!!!! "I'm still a stranger to you...I just want to make you happy as a woman and a wife..." They really should outlaw his kind of wanton sexiness...It could be a health hazard! Seriously: Don't they know that's porn to middle-aged women who love costume drama and the BBC?
THEN I discovered this site and read about your encounters with him...and to my great chagrin (because I realized I was then completely gobsmacked) he has been so sweet and kind to all of you. I thought Colin was the only one with a lock on that specialness (I've met him on three different occasions... melt... drool... what a nice person). Now I discover Rufus shares his traits AND lives somewhere in my greater Los Angeles back yard -not safely ensconced across the pond in Chiswick. Wandering around the Grove... Hanging out at the Pasadena Convention Center about three blocks from my office... Driving the red Zen car around Los Feliz... Caramba!!
S-I-G-H-H-H-H-H-H!!!
Like Charlie Brown used to say, "I'm doomed!"
