Hello everyone, i'm one of the latest victims of Rufusitis....well, not so new. I first saw Rufus in Carrington...many years ago, and I remmeber I kept thinkg...why doesn't she like him instead, I mean , come on, look at him, how can a woman refuse such a guy (yeah, ok, the story, the script). I haven't seen him in too many movies ever since, as, even though I love watching movies, I don't always find the time to do so. But recently I was been browsing some website with online tv series, and then I saw Pillars of the Earth on the list. Went to imdb and I saw Rufus Seweli is in it...and then I remembered....oh, yeah, it's that great looking guy from Carrington:) And I started to watch it...and then it hit me. Then Tristan and Isolde...kept thinging again...why not go for Marke instead, Isolde, don't you have eyes, can't see see he looks a lot more like a man than Tristan. (well, i know, the script, the story etc etc). And then I listened to Nick Silver...and it hit me harder. I am a translator and interpreter, and somehow I've developed a particular interest for voices and his is.... ! Then some other stuff, that I only watched just to see him in it, like Helen of Troy (can't imagine another Agamemnon from now on), a Knight's Tale ( how could anzone dislike Adhemar?), or other, that I would have like to watch anyway, such as the Woodlanders (adorable), Taming of the Shrew ( , the man can really play tremendously well...so far I had been sort of blinded by how good he looks , it happens sometimes with very good looking actors, but now i was convinced that it's a lot more than that. Besides, how can ANY man look so well with make up and high heels???). Then I listened to Nick Silver again and i realized it's not only about how sexy this man's voice is, but also about how well he uses it. Then Out of the blue...heart breaking, wmotional, powerful. Zen and Charles II....grrreat in both. Oh well... from Pillars to Charles II ...all of it in one week:) I'm even considering seeing The Tourist, since i found out he had a role in it. About me: Maria, translator and interpreter, in my 30s, Eastern Europe. Attachments:

Hello and welcome on board! Glad that you decided to join the fun. This is a very nice place to discuss all things Rufus. Believe me, we have all spent a lot of time wondering why on earth Isolde preferred that wood-faced Tristan to a man like Marke ;D My Rufus history is a little like yours - first I saw him in T&I, then there was TPOTE which brought him back to my attention, I followed up on his work on youtube and came across TOTS ... if I had needed a push into full-fledged Rufusitis, that did the trick. It's amazing that the man isn't just easy on the eyes but so incredibly talented. And, from all the accounts of people who were lucky enough to meet him in person, he seems to be a very down-to-earth and lovely guy Oh, and don't get me started on THE VOICE If you haven't seen them yet, watch "In a Savage Land" and "Illuminata". IASL is pretty hard to get on DVD, but it's all on youtube. Have fun looking around the board!

Welcome, Maria - you have got through an impressive amount of Rufus's work in a short time! Yes, he does have a very distinctive voice which we all swoon over, but especially in Nick Silver! Glad you decided to join us. Just ask if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing your contributions on the boards. GE2

such warm welcome! thanks! btw i've just read, in that italian Vanity fair that someone has posted here (great interview btw, and very good translation, i was preparing to do it mzself when i saw some else had done it before me), that was one step away to playing in Interview for the vampire, but Tom Cruise took the role. WHHHHHYYYY??? i wonder. I liked the film anzway ( i was 15, so how could I not:D, plus, the vampire stuff was better at the time- don't you think it's true? or is it just me getting old? ) but it would have been far better with Rufus as Lestat, IMHO:)

Welcome to the Rooftop, Maria! It's funny how Rufus just sneaks up on you, isn't it? I think my first "sighting" of him was in Middlemarch (or maybe it was Cold Comfort Farm), but it didn't really "click" until I saw him on my television screen one Thursday evening in 2009. Who IS this gorgeous man playing Dr. Jacob Hood?!? A little Googling and IMDBing and I realized that I had seen him in a LOT of things over the years (and like him in a LOT of things over the years). Have fun poking around in the huge wealth of information we have here.

When you begin questioning your hard-won reputation as an intelligent adult woman who normally exhibits sound judgment, good sense and unquestionable sanity, remember that you are not alone. our stories are remarkably similar, and we are all well-functioning and contributing members of society. the common thread is rufus and our awareness that he is something extraordinary. that makes us all - in my book - even more filled with sound judgment, good sense and unquestionable sanity. ;D (the 'lust' moments just prove we're 'real' women, too.) we're delighted to welcome you to the ranks!

Welcome Maria I have been drooling over Rufus since I saw him as Will in MIddlemarch ( very young ..Try it if you haven't seen it yet ) coasted along very nicely with just the symptoms of Rufusitis until I found I had the full blown case with TOTS Then I joined this board and I know now that I am a terminal case. This is the effect this man has on you ! Be Warned!! Join in and have fun and make some of the best friends you could have anywhere.

Hi, Maria! Welcome to The Rooftop! I'm sure you'll have a great time here, and the site is a wealth of information, photos, interviews, and discussions of his work. All the films people have recommended are great (I especially agree with kissmekate's mention of In a Savage Land). I also love Uncorked (also known as At Sachem Farm), which still seems to be available at youtube. It's very different from all his other roles. (He's so versatile!) I'm looking forward to hearing more from you.
Edited to say: I've just read your post in the Works thread that you're watching Uncorked, so I was a bit slow! ;D I hope you enjoyed it!

Ode to a Beautiful Nude - that was my first Rufus-voice-moment. Nice picture! Welcome, Maria!

Welcome Maria,
you've found the perfect place!
Lots of Rufusy things going on here, and maybe you'll get some new ideas for things worth watching or listening to. Did you hear England Their England on BBC radio?
TOTS is one of my favourites, as is Tom Builder who introduced me to the man...
Be sure to watch Martha Meet Frank Daniel and Laurence and Eleventh Hour as well, if you haven't seen those yet!

Hi Maria and welcome! I've only been a member for a week or two but have lurked for a long time... and what anglophile said: When you begin questioning your hard-won reputation as an intelligent adult woman who normally exhibits sound judgment, good sense and unquestionable sanity, remember that you are not alone. our stories are remarkably similar, and we are all well-functioning and contributing members of society. the common thread is rufus and our awareness that he is something extraordinary. that makes us all - in my book - even more filled with sound judgment, good sense and unquestionable sanity.
is absolutely true!!! You will find a great group here! I loved him in Dangerious Beauty and Middlemarch, and had admired his performance in a few other films like John Adams and Amazing Grace--but then Zen just blew me away. I had to find a support group of like-minded, totally smitten fangirls and here it is. Enjoy!!
