Ok, I've only started watching Downton Abbey about a week ago and already I'm obsessed...   Who wants to squee with me?  |

Ha ha....another one ......Yippee I started watching series 2 and by about the 3rd episode I was hooked. So much so that I ordered Series 1 on DVD and watched it back to back. By the time that series 2 finished I was up to date! Oh and then the extra Christmas episode lined it up nicely for the new series. They are filming series 3 at present. My fave characters are Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Anna (Joanne Froggatt), Daisy (Sophie McShera), Lady Sybil Crawley (Jessica Brown Findlay) and of course the amazing scene stealing Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham (the wonderful Dame Maggie Smith). I attempted to book to visit the house in December, but sadly it was totally sold out!! Now not open until April , so will have another attempt then. Photographs are not permitted in the house, but the grounds and exterior of the house are worth a photographic day out. For more info click link below: www.highclerecastle.co.uk/ |

I think I am the only person in the world who hasnt watched this. My parents and many of my friends love it. Not sure why I have ignored it.

I am so abysmally late to the party, it's embarrassing  . I've known about DA forever, I've followed Dan Stevens and Hugh Bonneville on twitter (and Brendan Coyle apparently, without really making the DA connection) and all that time, I was like: "Downton Abbey? Boooring!" Oh, Uke... So, I'm only into Series 1 right now. I have Series 2 and the Xmas Special too but I don't want to watch it all at once and then have to wait months for series 3. I want to take it slowly but this is proving HARD because I'm obsessed!! Want more!! Got to tell you, since I'm now in week 2 of this mania, things have settled a bit and I'm now able to deduce that I'm all about Bates. He's the man!!  Ok, all together now:  Also, I so want to visit Highclere Castle now. I wonder if I could fit it in on my short trip to England this summer... |

You should, KMK! I loved the first series, and the second is even better! But don't watch them all at once, that'll leave such a big gap until the third series... I'll squee along, Uke!

I'm a big fan too! They're currently showing season/series 2 on pbs. I saw the first season last year and I was hooked. The second season seems a bit soapier than the first (but I've watched lots of soaps in my life, so I don't mind), and I wish they weren't making such big time jumps between episodes, but the cast is first rate, the costumes and the setting are gorgeous, and I love period drama so, so much! Uke, I'm a big fan of Bates too! He's lovely. I don't know if any DA fans have seen this or not. It's a parody from last year's Red Nose Day/BBC Comic Relief. It's in two parts, and it's hilarious, especially if you're also a fan of Upstairs Downstairs. I don't think it has any true spoilers for season 1 (it was shown before season 2, so I know it doesn't spoil that), but I can't be sure because I don't have time to rewatch the whole thing now, so please be aware it's a possibility. And me here... I was thinking to go to the thread about the sinning, but I saw I am not alone... I have to say, I am in total awe. I love the style of the places and of the people, the manners, the atmosphere... on goodness me  , and everything about those series. And the VCards, quite clever and well done |
