It simply has to be a piano, don't you think? And if we go for the '60s setting, why not have him help out at the village church organ from time to time, even if he's not much of a churchgoer normally?
I love the poetry idea. Maybe it's the lady he meets who finally encourages him to give the publishing a try?

i would like to help him learn his lines and be a sounding board on matters of interpretation. had years of experience. i think this will go well with general foot and head massage duties.

looking at the plot of Daddy Date Night - is 'college professor' a little unlikely if he lives in the remote village of Criccieth, in Wales - shall we say South West Wales? I lived for some months in Pembroke and travelled quite a bit around Pembrokeshire up that West coast where the boat goes to ireland, where dylan thomas hung out and under milkwood was set.... i dont remember seeing anyone that looked like a college professor, even in music. i know perhaps he is a college professor on sabbatical, and composing gorgeous music, and lyrics, to the sounds of the sea beating on the coast of remote fishing village, and the spirits living in the Preselli hills while he tries to get his poetry published?
One of his co-stars he could meet while checking out stones in the hills.
Maybe Chloe is used to more active social life is missing her old friends and now it is a bit more quiet/lonely than she wd like ... boredom factor / risk of getting in with wrong crowd or getting depressed ...
dang work wants me to get back to it...

Mmm, good point about the college ... I was thinking along the same lines. The sabbatical is a good idea. Maybe he's helping out with music lessons at the local school (with half of the older girls madly in love with him? ) After all he'll need some cash to feed himself and his daughter during his time off work. I can see him hiking on his own, a beautiful lonely figure on a windy hilltop, a crumbling old granite wall in the background that may once have belonged to a minor castle. He has discovered the place by chance on one of the first walks he took after arriving in Wales and it has become his favourite spot where he goes if he needs to think about something. One day he comes there to find the rock he usually sits upon to look out over the sea occupied by a young woman ...

Out walking, he comes across Meredith, sitting on his favoured rock. (I see a Natasha Maclehone lookalike). Has a cross-wires conversation with her, and she stomps off, in high dudgeon. Meredith is someone he will bump into between the 'Dates', and have guarded conversations with, as they get to know each other better. Maybe Coles' sister is Alys. She looks somewhat like Helena Bonham-Carter. ( Dark, curly hair, free-spirited attitude in-vogue during the sixties). But also no-nonsense elder sister bossiness towards her brother.

Very good ideas, Lin! Especially love the Helena Bonham Carter suggestion. I can imagine her exactly as the kind of energetic, wilful woman who still commands her little brother around (just wanting the best for him) even when he's long grown up.

, excellent photos. I can see him taking his walks there when he needs a break from his writing and teaching. If I may request one poem Cole will read to his lover, among others: Blake's "Tyger". I think it's time to flesh out the other characters a bit Somehow I see a blonde woman as that friend of his sister's, impeccably dressed, working in some kind of assistant job, a secretary or a doctor's receptionist maybe. Her husband used to be well respected in the village (businessman, doctor or lawyer perhaps) until he left her for another woman. Most villagers feel sorry for her but she hates their pitying glances and the gossip behind her back, and Alys thinks all she needs is a fine man in her life, a man like her brother. Cole is not exactly amused but can't possibly say no to his sister, so he agrees to go to a concert of classical music with her ...

Fantastic pics, PGG. Have given me ideas about their homes.
More suggestions.... Donna is Alys' best friend. They met when at College in Cardiff, doing English. Donna, tall, blonde, a bit spiky ( think Joely Richardson, wearing Mary Quant)was married to the local Vicar, until he had an affair with the Doctor's wife. Donna now works for the doctor, running reception and general admin. She also lives with and keeps house for her elderly, widowed father, who is quite victorian in his views. Alys is pa to a businesman, some miles along the coast. Cole has taken a house for his sabattical. It sits slightly apart from the village, on a slight rise. A late Victorian, Gothic house, Chloe finds it spooky, and keeps telling her father she hates it. Chloe is also finding it hard to make friends. The local children seem to all be related to each other, and have strong accents, which Chloe finds hard to follow. She thinks they speak welsh just to exclude her ( not true, she just has not got her ear in yet). The local children are a bit in awe of her, as she speaks very 'BBC' English, and they know that her father teaches. A couple of the boys think she's 'very classy, y'know?', but are too shy to draw her out. (yet! )

I am thinking of going back and eliminating all but the very first posting like this one, when the project was just getting off the ground, and this most recent one. What does the production team think? It would mean there would be less to wade through. I would keep your individual postings with suggestions.) I think that's a good idea. Thanks for elaborating further on Donna, Lin! Love your ideas.

OK, did a little 'housekeeping' this morning, team, and eliminated the daily updates, keeping just the first and most recent ones. All your comments are still there, however, as are our most excellent photos. So what happens to Cole now and does anyone get a last name?

PGG - you're a genius with your ready supply of photos. When I looked at the first one, my reaction was, "Good heavens, how did she get one with a guy who looks like Rufus' twin in it?" Then, with the second it all became clear that it was your amazing ability to pick our boy up and put him down again wherever we want him. So could you put him down next to me somewhere next time? Please, dear. Loveruf - we can't get by another single day without a music editor. You arrived just in the nick of time. Welcome on board. ;D Let's role, team!!
