Sorry, forgot to say... I think Cole, ( and Chloe) and Alys have the same surname. I see Alys as still single, but I have a suitor waiting in the wings......

As far as favourite poets are concerned I think Cole is particularly fond of ee cummings, Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes as well as, of course, Dylan Thomas. He creates pieces of music as gorgeous settings for their poems.
As far as the plot is concerned, why did Cole want to get away on sabbatical? Was there a woman that was a bit too crazy on him and he felt like it was time to get away from her persistence? Does she turn up in the village, in the hills? What do the local ladies make of her?

Alys lives and works in St.Tyso. a small ( fictional) city, approx seven miles north of Criccieth. Everything a city should be , on a small scale ( somewhat like Exeter, Devon ). One fine saturday morning, Cole takes Chloe shopping in St Tyso, and, seeing Donna at the bus-stop, gives her a lift to the city. He has arranged to meet Alys for coffee at mid morning, and discovers that Donna is to do the same. They seperate into two groups..Donna for everyday shopping, C & C need stationary. The group convene in a pretty Tea shop, and order bevereges and cake. They have managed to get a table by the window, and can people watch, when not talking. A policeman walks by, and slows slightly as he sees the group in the window. A few minutes later, he walks past in the other direction. Donna coughs a little. Alys frowns at her. The group finish their refreshments, Cole pays discreetly, and they leave. As they emerge from the teashop, the Policeman strolls back, and into their paths. The policeman greets the Ladies pleasantly, while giving Cole a hard look. Donna smiles at the policeman, and introduces Alys' brother to Sgt. David Pengelly. The seargant visibly relaxes. Some small talk ensues, then the group splits up, to each return home. On the return journey, Cole quizzes Donna about the Policeman, to discover that he is Alys' admirer. He has been offered promotion in Plymouth, but has refused it. Alys will not take him seriously.

Once home, and lunch is consumed, Chloe sits in the garden, swinging her legs, wondering what to do next. The sound of Melissa's voice greeting Ianto reaches her. Chloe has half-raised herself, and she sees Ianto completely ignore melissa. But he quickly spies Chloe, and suggests a walk. So, they walk off along the path to the castle ruins, Dagda the ferrett looped over Ianto's shoulder. ''Melissa is very sexy'' says Chloe, sliding her eyes to look at Ianto. ''No, you need a brain to be sexy'', he replies. ''Every time she opens her mouth, she proves she hasn't got one''. They walk on in companiable silence.
St.Tyso has a small cathedral, as one would expect, and the Bishop has decided that a music Festival would be a very good way of celebrating their own Saints' day, and bring in revenue for the repair of the chancel roof as an added bonus. There will be an organ recital, with all the best local organists expected to take part. There will be a junior choir competition, and many other chances for people to take part.

, PGG. Beautiful! Lin, your suggestions are genius. Especially Ianto' "brain" remark and the music festival! Now for the organ music itself (I'll provide some youtube links later today): ... the dreamily romantic Prélude by César Franck ... the challenging Toccata in F by Charles-Marie Widor (maybe he'll get to play this at the opening of the festival?) ... and the wonderfully evocative Prière à Notre-Dame from Boellmann's "Suite gothique" ... Obviously, Cole has a soft spot for the French Romantics

Thank you, thank you, KMK. I have lots more, but I don't want to hog the story-line. I quite fancy one of our heroines singing something by Hildegard of Bingen at the Music Festival, but I don't know how to go about that....leave that to you. ( I do like Early Music! ) Is someone designing the 'Melissa' and 'Miranda' threads? I haven't touched them, as I don't 'know' them.

He has PGG on his payroll secretly, just to confuse the Tweeters so nobody can be positive where he really is. But we know his hear is right here with us.

More suggestions for background.......
Cole and Bethany met during their last year at university. He was studying music, she was doing English Literature. They fell instantly, deeply, seriously, in love. Cole gets a post teaching at the uni almost immediately after graduating. They marry quickly. Aprox. a year later,Cole is attending a meeting about his work, while Bethany and Alys have a quiet girls night in. Bethany is at full term of her pregnancy. Without warning, she goes into strong, fast contractions. Alys tries to get hold of Cole, but Bethany has an undiagnosed hole in the heart, and the strain is too much. Before Cole can get there, Bethany dies. They have been together less than two years. Bethany's parents pack up their home in Monmouth, and take a house close to Cole's flat. Between the three of them, they bring up Chloe. The Walker parents live and work abroad...they seem to have little inclination to offer emotional or moral support to either of their children. Material support is easier to give. Alys carries a huge burden of guilt over Bethany's death. She seems unable to accept that she could not have done anything to change the outcome. Until she sees her brother and neice settled with some lovely girl who would love them both, she feels she doesn't deserve anyone of her own.
The 'present' Bethany's parents have told Cole that it is time for them to move back to wales. F.I.L. has deteriorating health, and they want a little quiet life while they can, although they don't want to let him down. Cole wants to remain close to family, and misses his sister, too. He is bored with university city life, and all its attendant politics and underlying pettiness. His sabbatical is his way of exploring whether a more country way of life will suit Chloe, and him. Chloe's 13th birthday is looming ( 24th June). It is time for life to move on.

We have background, and we have some of the characters. Certainly the main ones, but.... Who is Melissa Roberts. We know she is a good-looking 16-year old. Is she a girl so enamoured of her own looks/charms, that she just wants to prove that she can attract whomever she fancies? Or is she looking for a meal-ticket. A personable man who will take her away from her little welsh village , to an exciting life elsewhere? And what about Miranda Goodlow? An attractive local woman, looking for love? or maybe just an affair? is she married? Or is she a famous Classical singer, who will be introduced via the Music Festival? Come on, chapesses, join in!
