Well Frannie...you only get the choice of breakfast, lunch OR dinner...or should I say Adam does...'cause when he's in bitey-feed mode you only get one sitting (probably standing) and you are on the menu..... Awww ltm, I can dream, can't I? . The idea of those fangs coming any where near my neck and I am all of a quiver

Went to see it on vacation when we had a rain day (only time I enjoyed rain at the beach). Made my son go with me. There were only 2 other people in the theater. It was at times, hard for me to follow the action scenes but that is what 3 D does to me. Rufus was great as Adam and he was amazing looking. I thought the film was just ok. It is really not my thing. I only saw it because of Rufus. Have said that before. To much Abe and not enough Adam. I did enjoy the book and had hoped it would end like the book with Adam eyeing Abe after the change. I thought Adam would be to smart to fall for their trick...him being around 5000 years. I do hope it does well!
I did like the southern accent!

I was just browsing through this week's issue of 'Entertainment Weekly' and found three Rufusy articles : 1. a snippet of a review for ALVH: 2. how the box-office stands for ALVH: ...and for the third article, go to the Cold Comfort Farm thread ;D

Well, I took my courage in both hands, and went to see ALVH on Saturday night. I am so glad that I did. The gore that I had expected, after all the interviews and the advertising, just was not that important. The film is a good, old fashioned morality tale. Some hardships for the hero, loss of innocence, hard work towards a goal, battles with the villains...it was all there, along with the value of true friendship and love, and how it can be used to overcome huge wrongs. And in the tradition of old-fashioned westerns, a fight on a burning train. I think it could be taken as a metaphor for bloodsuckers of any sort preying on the weak and disadvantaged. I must admit to a ( small ) scream , when the first vampire rears up behind the Hero. And recognising RS when he walked out of a darkened shed, early on . I loved RS striding along the tracks, roaring, kicking down bridge supports. I loved all of his outfits. Not so keen on the vampire minions, in their bitey mode, but, not so bad really. Yes, I am glad I went. The sad thing was... in a Cinema that seats abot 280 people, there were only 10 of us! Almost a private view. But... I think that was because the big Tennis match was already underway.

Once again Rufus carried the film he enlivened the visuals and his voice was excellent for such a small part. I think he could have even played Lincoln, he's thin enough!

I finally got to see it today! Had to hire a car to get there after ours self destructed in the garage I did enjoy it. I found it quite tongue in cheek (which I liked). Rufus was great! He played the part to perfection. I loved the way he played Adam - he was wicked and I loved the accent. Loved all the different characters - there wasn't just Adam that wasn't in the book either. I liked the concept of the book, it was different to anything else I've seen. The 3D effects were really good (a little overplayed at times though) I've a couple of criticisms - why cut a line that was in the trailer Also I would have kept the very start more in keeping with the book i.e. Abe's diary (just a minor thing) I found the 2 big action scenes mentioned in some reviews unnecessary and would have cut them completely and the ending I would have tweaked a bit. I found it a bit hurried, as though the story was being rushed to fit a couple of big fight scenes in, and not as suspense filled as the book. I would have liked a bit more explanation around what HS was trying to achieve too. I think it added to my enjoyment that I'd read the book. In future if Seth and Timur want my input, my number is 07.............. (just kidding! ) A couple of things surprised me - Adam was repeatedly mentioned in interviews as being 3000 years old. He was 5000 in the movie. I also expected to see him leading his people more - not just into battle but as a President amongst his own. Hubby was a tad scathing - Buffy meets Scooby Doo was his comment. He did enjoy it though but described it as silly, light-hearted fun. (Of course Avatar was completely sensible! ) He did add that Rufus was really good and suited the part perfectly. He thought Rufus was the best actor in it and added that Dominic Cooper was also really good. I have to agree with him re RS and DC................. IMHO the good outweighed the not so good. I'm going to see it again. That should tell you something!

I am also going to see it again partly because I got confused during the fight scenes but truthfully I loved the total effect of the film, just wish RS had been given bigger part. Reminds me of the comment made of him at Drama School, something along the lines of 'it didn't matter how small the part - he played it totally in character being aware that even small parts like playing a butler are important to the whole production!' can't remember the exact words but along those lines. In ALVK he does it again and steals the show!

Not sure I will see it again in the theater but do plan to buy the dvd. Then I can pause it where I want. Do agree some of the fight scenes were confusing due to the pace.

Thanks for finding this one, WD With his aristocratic bearing and Southern plantation home, Adam is like a malevolent Rhett Butler – a mix of elegance and menace.

My brother created his own review of ALVK sadly he disliked it but I will post the relevent comments... Benjamin Walker as Lincoln is a talented young actor with a great future and I would encourage him to expand his repertoire beyond presidents of the United States and axe murderers. Rufus Sewell is both charming and repellent as the chief vampire. As the lone ‘good’ vampire and Lincoln’s mentor, Dominic Cooper threatens to steal the movie and frankly I wish he had. Jimmi Simpson, a brilliant character actor specializing creepy, funny and strangely magnetic roles, alone captures the tone that this film begged for.I feel that brother meant to write -- Rufus stole the movie -- but we all make mistakes. ;D
