With Rufus's birthday fast approaching, we thought we'd let you know we're going to open an official thread for happy birthday wishes a day or two before his birthday, so you have time to think about your greetings. If you have any question about whether what you want to write to him is appropriate, that means it's probably not! Seriously, direct any questions about the upcoming birthday thread here or in a PM to a mod, and don't post them in the thread itself (when it opens), so that his thread is focused on birthday greetings.

Oooh, that's a lovely idea! I had been wondering what we'd be doing for his birthday this time.

Thanks Nell for filling us in the Birthday Boy Thread - now all I have to do is think of something cool and birthdayish!

I'm going to take off my Moderator hat for a moment and and as a plain ol' Rooftopper say what I hope this Birthday thread will be. To be honest, I started worrying that Roof's birthday thread would be filled with images of Rufus! And I really wonder if (assuming he ever pops by to read it) would he really want to read through a thread filled with pictures of himself? To be honest some more ... I think he might just cringe. And I also worried that each post would be long, long, long. Okay. Enough worrying. I can hear you all saying "Just chill, Judy. Chill." There are some amazingly talented and creative people on the Rooftop, so I know we can each come up with a short and sweet and sincere way of wishing Rufus a very happy birthday. Something nice, funny, interesting ... something he might actually want to read. Now I'm chilling.

. Something nice, funny, interesting ... something he might actually want to read. I agree with that too Judy . Also quoting Judy [ (assuming he ever pops by to read it)] There a bit of me that hopes he never reads the board. When I think of some of the things I have posted, I would die of embarrassment.

To this end I think we should use a maximum of 1 picture (not that you have to use a picture) per members post. Personally speaking I also prefer the idea of a non-Rufus pic. I got a birthday card this year with a photo of myself on it. I think everyone else liked it. Sadly it didn't have the same appeal to me I'm sure we all share your vision here .

What Rueful said! ;D I agree about the "one pic" idea, too - but if people want to use one of Rufus, personally I think that's fine. Let's just try and keep everything nice and tasteful, and not go overboard - we want to make Rufus smile, not embarrass the poor man!

Question: What is considered as going overboard? I had an idea, but the more I think about what Rufus might think, the more nervous I'm getting about actually doing it.

Well, CP, as Nell said above: Feel free to run your idea by one of us mods in a PM, if you want - we might discuss it among ourselves, but we won't let on to any other member what your plans are.

Well, before I go about asking it, I guess I should also ask for clarification about this whole project. Is this simply a designated thread on the board, or is there an actual note on paper involved? I'm sorry if that's a silly question, but I just wanted to make sure.
