I guess we have some different tastes in music around here, which is fun. I guess that is why they make so many flavors of ice cream as well.

Frannie, I may have mentioned that it was the music that first made me fall in love with Mr. Kate I have never heard of Matt Munroe so far, thanks for the hint. I can't watch the video now, but I love this aria from "Don Giovanni" I have a soft spot for Mozart anyway

Kate, that´s so romantic! My husband can´t sing or play an instrument, but we came close to one another through listening to music!

That's also a lovely thing, midoro!
Frannie, have you already got Young Rebel Set's new album, "Crocodile"?

It's a good album - a little louder than the first one, and more on the "rock" than on the acoustic side, but a good mix all in all. Loved the lyrics, too.

I am sure that everyone is going to jump on me and say ,of course we know her , we have heard this ,ages ago . but I found it on an old 'classic ??' compilation cd of M(o)B's. only one song Anne Sofie von Otter ' Baby Plays Around' she is accompanied by Elvis Costello which may account for why I missed it ; I am not usually a EC lover . Fantastic !!
I have never heard of her ... she is wonderful. going to look for more.

I don't listen to much current music, and only tend to pick up on songs if they're used in TV ads or played when I'm out shopping. Having been hunting for a dress for a wedding recently, I kept on hearing one song in particular in the clothes shops, and it was driving me mad trying to find out who sang it - not helped by the most obvious lyrics in the chorus having nothing to do with the eventual title!
Anyway, I managed to work out that it was George Ezra singing "Blame It On Me" - phenomenal voice, very mature, so it was a surprise to discover that he's just 21 years old. I listened to a few more tracks on Youtube and now I'm hooked on his music - a quirky kind of country-rock is the only way I can describe it. If you haven't heard him, do look out for his stuff on Youtube - "Budapest" is another great song.
My delight at finding him was compounded when I came across a video for "Listen to the Man" which features Sir Ian McKellen lip-syncing and, quite frankly, photobombing poor George, then going all fan-girly and starstruck when George stops the recording to tell him off for taking over. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS0WvzRVByg Hilarious!
You've all probably already heard of George, but if you haven't, I can recommend his music. Enjoy!

I guess everyone is quite surprised when they find out how young George Ezra actually is. He sounds like a worldly-wise 50-year-old (in a good way)!
I just realized I haven't posted on this thread for a while. Since I last did, I discovered First Aid Kit - two young Swedish singer-songwriter sisters whose sound reminds me a bit of Joan Baez and similar '60s folk singers. Lovely, relaxed music that sounds like it's from another time. What I also grew to like is Katzenjammer, an all-female folk-rock band playing a whimsical kind of upbeat pick-me-up music, and Kitty, Daisy and Lewis, a rather cool trio of London siblings. Their style is hard to describe, it has touches of Sixties rock'n'roll and country as well as other influences like reggae.
Has anyone bought the latest Mumford & Sons album, "Wilder Mind"? I was a bit skeptical when they announced they'd ditched the banjo and took up electric guitars, and while I do miss the folksy banjo sound a little, the new album is a rather good one (although it took me a few rounds of listening to totally get into it).

LOL Kate. I agree, his face does not match his voice. Thanks for the recommendations.
Thanks GE2! Great fun!

Very amusing little video GE2. Bucharest Ian McKellen seems quite a sport. He was filming in my home town a few years ago - Da Vinci Code. One evening in a local eaterie the waitress thought she recognised him and went over to ask for an autograph. Unfortunately she thought he was John Hurt He was very gallant about it and told her it happens all the time.
