Ahahaha, my friends think 'the Rufus thing' is wildly hilarious and will often crack jokes about it. A few days ago my friend Katie came up to me saying how she had seen the trailer for The Holiday and how it looked good but OMG, had I realized that Rufus has "a permed mullet"?? I said I hadn't because to my knowledge he has naturally curly hair. Katie: "No way, he has a perm!!" She still won't believe me. O...K... Also, tonight some of my friends were watching tv and a trailer for a movie called The Nativity Story came on and there's a scene with Joseph (played by an actor who vagely resembles Rufus?) and one of the girls exlaims "is that Rufus??" This again was a source of great merriment among them. Anyone else has any good stories of non-believers in their circle?

That would be me. I'm the non-believer. My circle think he's beautiful/gorgeous/amazing/insert-your-adjective-here. I just can't seem to get past his brilliance. When I joined this group I said I was an "acting s*l*u*t". Hasn't changed.
I've actually got a friend who said, of the picture from Amazing Grace, see you just can't make this guy look bad no matter what you do.
I provide the merriment because everyone thinks I'm clueless.

I'm definitely a believer. My friends tolerate my obsession but don't get it until they see him act. Then they know how brilliant he is. The amazing thing about Roof is that he just gets better and better looking and with that bone structure he'll be beautiful when he's 70. When I told how much I liked the "older" Jan he said that it's part of his plan to age well. :-)

That's dandy because I much prefer older men, although Rufus will always be ever-so-slightly younger than me, bugger! There's something beautiful about a man who's aged well without any help......I'm thinking David Bowie in particular. If Rufe is as stunning as he is when he's 60 he'll be doing just fine. Talking of non-believers, maybe I can add a new slant here. My best pal of thirty-odd years has always had completely different taste from me when it comes to men (e.g. her: Sean Bean-bleughhh). However, on Rufus we agree totally. Even my hubby sees what I see and tolerates my obsession well. He's also coming round nicely to the Charles II ermine and robes I bought him........er, maybe that was just my own private fantasy

My niece and her friends? (19 - I suppose that age group) can't get past his "lazy eye" (as they call it) which I love (along with his hair, his voice, his essence, his very being). She/they are into those plastic, shiny face Hollywood boys.
They don't get it - their loss! I, although a 60's baby, I am 6 years older than Rufus - however, Hilda was 42 and she got Billy who was much, much younger. (My fantasy!). I suppose I am now a dinosaur and they cannot conceive that I can obsess over an actor. If she read these pages...

My friends thought I was slightly crazy as well to be so ga-ga over Roof.....until they saw A Knight's Tale, and then they sort of understood.
It's not just about the looks, it's about the amazing talent and the self-deprecating humility which comes across in every interview I've seen or read. Definitely Roof is for the discriminating viewer - the difference between caviar and fish sticks................

I run a college bookstore, so my gauge is always my student workers. Back in Middlemarch days, forget it. Nobody knew who he was. A few did after Dark City came out on DVD and became kind of a cult hit, especially among the guys. But now EVERYONE, male & female, seems to have watched A Knight's Tale, thanks to the popularity of Heath Ledger. So all I have to say is Rufus is the bad guy with the dark curly hair and they know who he is. A few have seen Zorro too. I'm hoping The Holiday appeals to everyone!

I mean at least the college kids know who he is and he's really good in AKT. He's one of the only things in it worth watching... Zorro... I'm not gonna go there.... in fact I probably shouldn't have even mentioned the name for fear of what it might evoke

. My circle think he's beautiful/gorgeous/amazing/insert-your-adjective-here. I just can't seem to get past his brilliance. . I have a foot in both camps! I can talk about his acting prowess until the cows come home but I'm certainly not immune to his more obvious attributes. As for the non believers of my acquaintance, most are unashamedly in the this-is-hilarious camp. But you know, even they waver sometimes... My work colleagues, in particular, take great delight in taking the piss at every available opportunity and yet, one Monday morning I came into the office to be greeted by a sea of concerned faces. When I asked what was up (expecting some world tragedy that I'd missed because I'd been listening to Radio One on the way in, rather than Radio Four), one of them passed an open copy of the Sunday Mirror across to me and asked quietly, "have you seen this?" (Board rules prevent me saying what the story was, but suffice it to say it was the first photostory of a certain gentleman and a lady). I was a little stunned for a moment (by their reaction, not the news - which I'd seen on the net the previous day) and then I burst out laughing. They all looked affronted, muttered darkly about wasted worry and launched back into mercilessly taking the mick!

He is incomparable as he is, and yes, plastic " Hollywood perfection" is sooo very tiresome!

The archaeologist is back ;D Just dug up this little treasure. I'm sure you ladies have plenty of stories to share. My almost-mother-in-law has developed a slight crush on the lovely man since TPOTE and starts seeing Rufuses where there are none - she recently thought she had recognized him in "The Kite Runner" (I don't really see any similiarity of Khalid Abdalla and Rufus except for the dark hair, though). But I thought it was funny anyway. And my sister's boyfriend confessed he loved Tom Builder's muscles

Most of my circle of friends were not very familar with Rufus. Must be hanging with the wrong crowd..haha. They remembered him when AKT and The Holiday are mentioned. A few who were familar with the book, borrowed my Pillars dvd. I did put them on high Zen alert for this Sunday.

"I'd like to see multiple Rufuses, too" It is a shame that I have such a big collection of almost all films with Rufus in them, and my sister "pretends" not to be interested...not that I will force anything on her, but just a small interest can turn into such a nice little obsession... Eh, well. At least my Dad likes Rufus, particularly from The Pillars, because it was the lengthiest time you can get acquainted with him as an actor. And also my partner, who happens to work in the movie business, knew who Rufus was by full name, I was actually very pleasantly surprised by that fact. He made some comments on the Tourist, good ones most of them.

Whenever my sister and I have a crush on someone famous, we play a guessing game about it. When I mentioned AKT (the only thing she knew him from at the time), the first thing she said was "oh, not THAT guy! The dark haired guy...the awful one?" My mum's reaction was the same. The next day I showed them both TOTS and at the end, my sister turned to me and said "unless you want me to get a crush on him too, don't show me anymore of his movies." My dad hasn't seen much of his work yet, but he and my mum both LOVED AMONI
