[quote author=etherealtb board=movies thread=1179157325 post=1184950623Hmmmm...it does, doesn't it? So then Uke, you live in NYC and I can stay with you? ;D[/quote] Wouldn't that be great?! Then you could see all the plays!! Umm Uke, you don't live in Manhattan above a big ole busted steam pipe I hope!! Wasn't that a terrible thing to happen!! Apparently it also happened in 1989, but I don't remember hearing about it.

I live and work on the West Side so actually I haven't noticed anything. I conveniently also don't read the newspaper or watch the news (I get the news I need on the weather report. I can gather all the news I need on the weather report. Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile...) so although I live about 2 or 3 miles away, it feels like that happened somewhere else entirely.

well it's played havoc with my life the last few days. I'm staying at The New York Helmsley this week and it's one block down from me. Every time I came back to the hotel they had a different set of streets blocked off... tonight is better. Only Lexington and 42nd are closed. Just in time for me to head out tomorrow...
I think I'll go back to my Marriott across the from the big hole in the ground where the buildings fell down a few years back.

I saw Eurydice and Frost/Nixon the two night I was in town. I'm in Pennsylvania now. Eurydice was an interesting concept with interesting staging and some really dreadful acting. Frost/Nixon you've seen but Frank Langella has some really wonderful moments toward the end. He's no competition for Rufus but nevertheless he's still a very gifted artist. I like Michael Sheen but I didn't seen anything to change my opinion about him that he's a good serviceable actor but isn't in Rufus league. Curiously, I found him a perfect choice for David Frost, but perhaps not for the reasons you might think. They are going to be so blown away by Rufus when Rock 'n' Roll comes to Broadway. Oh yes I talked to several people who hated Coast of Utopia... I didn't think everyone out there was loving it. It's just to... to... I don't know. Not something most people would like.

What's the reason? because I think his acting is a bit like David Frost's journalism. And I'm still waiting for his Nixon interview... Just my opinion. I've seen him in a lot of things and he never seems to vary much as an actor. He never seems to inhabit the role. He is always Michael Sheen being someone, not someone else. But then again, I may have missed a brilliant performance. I haven't seen everything. But if you think of Rufus, it's more difficult to find a so so performance than find a stand out. So you can take my comment FWIW to you.

I live and work on the West Side Oooo.......I *love* the Westside! (Wait, are we talking about the West Side of NYC or the Westside of LA? Blonde moment! LOL!) Anywhoo, I had the weirdest dream the other night that I was at a play and Rufus was in it! Being a dream, of course, it was extremely bizarre and nothing that would ACTUALLY be on stage, but I consider it a good omen for my trip plans that I will get to see Ruf live soon!

NYC!
I had a dream last week that RnR rehearsals in NY had started (must have been triggered by those b/w rehearsal pics) and that the first day was this massive public workshop where a whole hall full of people were splitting up in little groups to do a read-through of the play. Rufus and co. were just one of the little groups. Absolutely bizarre!
I remember the 24 Hour Plays at the Old Vic in '05 when the little groups were scattered all through the building rehearsing their short plays. I was a volunteer and working on decorating the upstairs bar whilst Joseph Fiennes and his group were rehearsing their play in the same room. Madness! But oh so brilliant.
Btw, for anyone listening to the radio play, Daniel Evans is annoying!! Nothing like Rufus.

Ok, I take it back, Daniel Evans is not annoying, he's actually rather good. Upon reflection and all that.
I'm stuck in an airport for hours and hours so I'm giving the RnR radio play a relisten. I'm quite baffled how this play is still AMAZINGLY BRILLIANT even after having seen it a trillion times. I'll never get over it.
